Probs going second bottom level - freight costs from US to AU is all over the shop from reasonable to insane, so with no way to check there's no way I can pledge anything with physical goods.

I tried working out the shipping calculator in that Backer Kit site & it was nonsensical, so that's a fail. :(

Pleasantly surprised how comparatively cheap the full set is, I guess the omnibus format is helping a lot there. I did quick in my head maths for per volume pricing from Amazon & expected it to me much more expensive (though could be Australia tax making that abnormally high too).

First goal smashed BTW, nearly $55k of the $50k needed (like $500 short when I checked), so almost there for the collectors boxes

Missed the Invader early bird, and shipping to ID probably cost me half my pledge (or more after the tax)
but never mind gonna wait patently and prepare extra cash for it.

but wait there is no mention that it will ship globally, it will right?

@smashman42 I would estimate that a total of 300-350 people will be participating in the KS, which would leave some 700 copies of the 1000 that Sam will print for every volume that will be sold on the usual markets. So maybe later in 2020 you might be able to buy from BookDepo or Wordery and get a more favorable import rate. I don’t think the collector’s boxes or any of the other goodies will be on the stores, though.

@legitpancake I would buy ASAP though, since ~700 copies for every volume isn't a whole lot to go around.

So with the massive success of this kick starter I'm really hoping that it opens the door for other series that would not normally get a print run to get a kick starter to gauge support.

Considering each book will have 3 volumes in it I wonder how JNC is going to handle which book gets which cover.

@eternal-wanderer Maybe new cover art for them & the existing covers inside printed in the same stuff as normal colour pages?

@smashman42 While I wouldn't be opposed to new covers that would mean commissioning Poco for 10 new covers and I'm not sure I can see Sam doing that for books, that even with a successful Kickstarter, will have a pretty limited release.

I was low key hoping for hardcover but this works for me as well 😁

@eternal-wanderer Would they simply use the first volume of the 3 and have the other two internally as just art perhaps?

                            It is an interesting situation

Maybe a new stretch goal could be to commission Poco to do new cover artwork?

@smashman42 It would be a bit of a pain but, yes, the printer could do a color insert with the back cover/front cover for each book, inserted at the start of each book in the omnibus. Outside cover would be of the first book.

Congrats to the author/artist/ and JNC!

Kudos to Warnis: I can't imagine that we'd be here if the translator on this project wasn't so good at what they do!

Kudos to Sam, I'm glad you took the chance on this series and (as I'm sentimental about this particular work) I'm hyped to see this get the 'star treatment' with the premiums and whatnot

I'm happy to see that this endeavor is successful (reached goal and 2 stretches as of time of writing this...in less than 24hrs!) I think it says something about fandom that so many of us love this work enough to support it (and enough of us want physical copies and/or the new content) to 'put our money where our mouths are'. Hooray for us.

I wish that I had more disposable income to support at a higher level than I am, hopefully by next July I'll be able to plop down some cheese for what will be available via backerkit (or maybe we'll see some of the digital content being offered for premium credits via JNC?)

in any case I hope that this demonstrates that maybe other series can be celebrated in a similar way (if not on such a grand scale) - put out a quality product and the fans will support it!

                                    I read banned books

I can now have a shelf of Invaders of the Rokujouma novels in English. My expectations after watching the anime: I'd only be able to legally read the series by first learning Japanese. Nearly three years later, I get to legally read the series digitally in English. Now it's looking like after another three years, I'll be able to have a shelf of Rokujouma books.

A print run for an existing licensed title is easier to see happening than talking the publishers into granting a potential new license only if a KS succeeds.

It's kind of happened with anime from Nozomi and Animego but I suspect they both "cheated" and agreed up front to pay for a bare-bones license even if their KS failed. We can dream of new title licenses though.

Aside from that, it's great news that this KS has succeeded even though I only buy digital books now myself.

yeah, while outright licensing through kickstarter may be a no-go, though, I do hope that having this kickstarter succeed may encourage licensing other older, longer titles with established fan translations by illustrating that they can succeed better than commonly thought.

@harmlessdave I only remember one KS from Nozomi, and that was to pay for dubbing a title they already had licensed and were distributing (Aria).

Creamy Mami was "crowd funded" by others, and the left-over copies were sold through distributors. (one of these days I ought to watch it)
