Why Shouldn’t a Detestable Demon Lord Fall in Love
-
The first volume of the manga just came out. I'm glad to see this one getting a manga. Heck, maybe it will even get an anime once the manga is far enough along. I just hope that someone picks it up an translates it.
-
I'm interested in this series but I haven't picked it up yet since it's from Slow Press.
@lighthawk96 Is there any new of V2 of the LN yet?
-
As of 11/11/19 V2 is in the editing process

@rahul-balaggan Oh, I missed that blog entry. Editing, huh? Guess it should be ready in ~6 months then... 😏
-
@rahul-balaggan Wow! They acutally came through there. I think there release of 3 volumes of "Chivalry of a Failed Knight" might have contributed to some of their slow releases. But now that the first 3 volumes of that is out I guess they have freed up some time for some of the other stories. Still, can't wait to get my hands on volume 2!😁

Haha, yeah. 80,000 Gold was "100% translated and edited" 6 months ago now it is "in QA." Definitely out by xmas 2020!

@lighthawk96 Sometimes I wonder if Sol Press has been sitting on that license for a long time now but wanted to release all 3 volumes at once, 3 volumes at once is impressive, but if they got that deal like 2 years ago, it's not so.
It does seem weird that after so long it was Sol Press who decided to go for it, even though it was a highly requested series after all.
-
Well,
Sol Press promised us a release of this title every 6 months and that time has come and gone. I was hoping beyond hope that this might actually happen since it's been in editing since November according to thier website. Alas, it looks like Slow Press is living up to thier fan adopted namesake and dragging thier feet on yet another license of thiers. This is truly a sad thing to see. And I was really looking forward to reading volume 2 as well.😔
-
80,000 Gold volume 2 was "fully translated and edited" as of July 29, 2019.
Perhaps it will be out before July 29 2020, but I'm not holding my breath.
Even if Gold 2 is ever released, Detestable 2 is probably 6 months to 10 years behind it in the pipeline, sigh.

I'm considering going to school for fabrication through work and am wondering if I should take some extra writing courses on the side. I should be done and able to try and work part time and speed up Slow presses editing team to get out v2s by the time I have the fabrication degree if I start next fall.
-
@jampodevral
Good luck getting them to pay you. -
@jampodevral It might be faster to fabricate a whole new team for Sol Press.
-
@EmpactWB They're going to underpay the team and lose it right away anyway... 😅
-
I just don't get what their deal is. Do they care? Do they have enough translators? What is the problem?
-
@lighthawk96 My guess is that they keep losing translators/editors because of money issues. Every time that happens the delays keep piling up. And with every new person on board they have to catch up from the start further delaying things. That's just my own speculation based on what I've read/seen so far though.

I also suspect (but do not know) they they are trying to do too many things with too little expertise. Putting out visual novels requires a different skill set that translating (and editing/producing) light novels, and Magna requires folks of other skills than the previous 2...if they are not making quick enough $$ on LNs vs Visual novels, they aren't going to be able to (or will be unwilling to) pay/retain good people with appropriate skills to do the work...and those projects get put on the back burner...and delays happen. I've seen it in lots of business that try to over-diversify too quickly, nothing gets done well and the dollars needed to invest in the people to make it work never materializes. IMHO Sol would be better off selling the licenses they have (or sub-licensing them if they can, or whatever the contract allows so that someone else does the work) , and concentrate on what they do seem to be able to produce (VN's, Manga(?)) - they won't see a return on the investment of acquiring the LN licenses if they don't produce sellable product, and they can't do that unless they pay/retain good translators, editors, etc.
-
@Terabyte Well, the thing of it is, you have to honor you promises on release dates or the people you are trying to sell your product to will undoubtedly lose faith in your ability to honor said promises. Just like what has happened here.
My big thing is they seem to be doing fairly well on the visual novel side so I know they have the translators but it appears to me that they are just sitting on their releases. I speak very little Japanese and know next to nothing about editing, but if you gave me a translated work I could probably muddle my way through and make something that flows with what has already been released. Or maybe I'm just way off base here.
Either way, I'm stuck in limbo waiting for a release date to be announced just like everyone else.

and the people whose product you are trying to sell will lose faith. If you were a Japanese publisher, would you license your product to Sol Press? You won't get paid royalties if finished product doesn't sell
if they don't turn this around soon--I can't see them staying in the LN business, they won't be able to get (quality) material to translate (profitably)

So let's move the generic Sol Press discussion to its dedicated thread and keep this one about this specific series, if everyone doesn't mind ^_^

I think we'll get volume 2 (based on what someone working on that one has said on Discord about where it's at in the process, I'm not too worried; hashtagSoonTM), but I'm still worried about the future of course (company translation and editing process doesn't seem to be improving speed wise, but getting worse). =(
