Delays in Continuing Series (Fall 2019)(All Fall 2019 Delayed Series have Resumed)
-
Hi everyone,
I wanted to update everyone on some series that have been delayed between volumes. The ones I'm referring to are the following:
- Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! (updated! see below)
- I Shall Survive Using Potions! (updated! see below)
- Unwanted Undead (updated! see below)
Unfortunately, the editors of these series were unable to continue on the projects, so we have been onboarding new editors. It has been taking time for the new editors to get up to speed, especially in the cases where the series is already many volumes in. We will have them starting up again soon, starting with Unwanted Undead, which is set to resume next week.
There may also be delays in
The Master of Ragnarok,Infinite Dendrogram,How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom, andGrimgar of Fantasy and Ashfor the same reason, though we will do our best to get them going as soon as possible. On another note,
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! will also resume in early November.I am the editor, and with the pressures of the breakneck speed we're publishing Ascendance of a Bookworm, in addition to some recent restructuring of the company and preparation for Anime New York City, I haven't been able to get back to it until now.We appreciate your patience and understanding. Thank you for continuing to support J-Novel Club!

Thanks for the update. In the interests of maintaining quality it is good to see that editors are being given the time they need to familiarise themselves with the series that they will be editing. I look forward to a number of these series so it is good to see that they will indeed be continuing and have not been dropped/discontinued.

...I really do hope all editors are doing okay.
I'm always awed by the quality of JNC's translations, so I can imagine the pressure they've been going through.
-
I’ve been waiting for a while now on an update regarding the status of Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf!. However, I’m not impressed with JNC and their complete radio silence on the issue.
-
I'm sad to see Emily Sorensen leave. She is the editor of many of my favorite titles.

Thanks for getting back to Ascendance of a Bookworm so swiftly after Part 2 Vol 1; I am also looking forward for the return of Bakarina.
Thanks to Emily Sorensen for all her hard work at JNC, appreciate the work you all doing

Understandable. But thanks for at least posting this to let us know and not leaving us hanging out there with no information. The update is very much appreciated.
-
Not trying to pester or anything, but any news on Unwanted Undead and Bakarina?
-
Yeah it’s not great when a promise is made and then not kept.
Better to say “some time soon” rather than give a a set time like early November which has come and gone with no release.

We apologize for the confusion and lack of release, a last-minute emergency situation forced us to miss the early November date. We hope to have it launched as soon as possible but do not have an ETA at this time.

@hatguy12 said in Unwanted Undead Volume 5:
Sam posted something in Discord last week that implied something else came up after that initial projection of when it would be resuming (he said something like "the series is cursed").
If he had said that about The Magic in this Other World is Too Far Behind! I would have totally believed it. Unwanted Undead Adventurer? Not so much so. It's just Rentt plodding along.

(He has also said that about Too Far Behind as well. I also immediately associated the word "cursed" with Too Far as soon as he said it for UUA.)

Any news on Bakarina or Unwanted Undead?
-
@jason-maranto Bakarina is still being worked on, same logistical obstacles as before have not yet been resolved. No updates on Undead, unfortunately.
-
At least it's not as bad as one peace books delaying shield hero like a year because of a "minor translating" error.
-
@galactuskahn24 I was under the impression that they were re translating the whole book hence the long delay, do you have a source on what caused the delay I'd kinda like to know?

I never understood why they'd go on hiatus publishing it while within the sphere of influence of the anime timeperiodwise?
On another topic, any news on Siskan v5/final?
-
@korppi At this stage I'd consider Siskan abandoned, apparently J-Novel lose the licence if the final volume isn't out before the end of this month and it hasn't started pre pub yet.

Siskan abandoned
I haven't been following Siskan, but it saddens me to think that JNC would leave some members hanging. I know there may be reasons etc why JNC would lose a license before a series is complete (or chose to discontinue translating a series if not popular/low sales)
I'd like to see some kind of announcement if a series is being dropped
-
RE Siskan, I thought I remember Sam recently posting that it was actually another year (as opposed to this year like he had said previously). But that recollection is a bit vague, so I could be mistaken.
Either way, even if the license expires, Sam can (probably) just license it again if he wants. But regardless of the license status, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it at this point.
