This is the only series they have that I have any interest in at this time as well, but it's really hard to commit to buying it when I believe the bonuses are only in the physical print and the shipping costs are way too high to justify buying just the single volume they have available right now.
I think in some other blog post they mentioned bonuses would be included in digital releases too for future volumes? I might be wrong though.
I think that was the plan in, but who knows if that's still the case anymore. I may end up just going digital. I think the extra was a bonus story, but I'm not even sure at this point. They don't even list bonus content on the product page. Also the World Teacher series page has some youtube video on it that's been flagged private, so it just shows a big "video unavailable" in the middle of the page...

It's the actual Tentai owner doing the translations.
Is he doing everything else too? The blog mentions they licensed a manga and I'm just trying to imagine how he's going to manage TL on the 6 series they already have plus the TL and lettering on a new manga aquisition.

To be fully transparent, Ice Queen 2 being delayed was my fault, as I posted multiple times both on my personal twitter and on the Tentai Books discord. It was a combination of mental health issues (I had to take some time off in September on all my projects, both JNC and Tentai, to deal with two losses) and juggling more projects than I could handle at once.
The other delays and the fact that the company's stretched thin aren't on me, but I will apologize for issues that were my fault.
I'm sorry that Ice Queen 2 was delayed several months because of me. I've learned what my limit is in terms of how many projects I can take on at once, and it won't happen again.

That's something many of us have run into at one time or another with work, volunteering, or life in general. If I'm capable of doing something it's tempting to think of saying yes to it, even if there's no way I can fit it in with everything else.
-
@jpwong That's crazy. Why not just merge with JNC or have JNC handle the English side of things? I remember reading World Teacher years ago. Seems like lots of their series are stuck at volume 1?
That also reminds me that the formatting for the World Teacher, Volume 1 ebook is atrocious. I remember having so many issues with it on my kindle when it came out. I had to reformat it in Word to get it to look right. Looking at it now, the cover and colored illustrations look like they were done by a fan who had never done it before as well.

Talk is cheap. Or rather text is cheap in this case. Until I see them releasing volumes with a proper, constant schedule I won't believe anything in that blog entry.
The only series I'm interesting in from them is World Teacher, and I sure do hope they make a better effort for the next volumes because the first one was full of errors. (Not even JNC prepubs have that many...)
===
EDIT: I also didn't realize before that a single translator is handling all their series. That's just a recipe for disaster, but it does explain the huge delays so far.
Not to mention the amount of mistakes said translator will make since working on so many at once is bound to make them lose their mind and mix things up. Therefore, it is impossible to release anything on a set schedule. At their current speed, World Teacher won't be translated in its entirety for another 20 years.

Just thought it would be worth posting here that How to Melt the Ice Queen's Heart 2 will be released digitally on February 28th!
-
@Pomelo Yeah! But it wasn't selectable on Amazon a few days ago, so I'll have to go back...
Argh... still not in the catalog to order...
-
Sigh, still nothing more specific than sometime this year for World Teacher 2-3.
On the bright side, re-reading World Teacher 1 will almost be a new experience by the time volume 2 is released.
-
@HarmlessDave The problem with a single-person company (despite his recent hire) is that we're stuck waiting, and waiting, and ...
The last blog entry was a month ago, promising things "real soon". Not sure where @Pomelo got that date for Ice Queen 2, but it looks like nothing will be public until a day or so before it's public. It's a pain, because I keep buying other books when I hit up Amazon to check. I've been trying to stop that...
-
@SomeOldGuy I googled it up and I think it must have come from this interview from Feb 11 with their what CEO?
https://www.nookgaming.com/interview-with-tentai-books-light-novel-publisher/
Tentai Books is releasing the second and final volume of How to Melt the Ice Queen’s Heart soon, digitally on 28th February 2023, and later physically.
We’ve also recently been the subject of untrue rumors, like business partners terminating contracts with us (which is not true) and many other things, so the intention is to at the very least keep releasing things at our own pace and being communicative.
I mean given what went down with Sol Press, it's maybe not unexpected that when the company basically went radio silent for almost a year that people might get a bit antsy about what's going on.
There's also this reddit post where the user saying they're the editor has posted and doesn't contradict the listed date either
Looks like they announced it in their discord around Feb 7, dropped into the Tentai thread on JNC's discord and saw some people posted a couple of screenshots of different announcements they made
It sounds like they're also planning to put out another blog post soon(tm) with a more pined down schedule for their upcoming releases.
-
@SomeOldGuy @jpwong Pomelo's source of that date comes from internal stuff. Pomelo is an (the?) editor at Tentai, as stated in that article even. That's their reddit account.
Welcome to freelancing, where plenty of people work with multiple companies in the same industry.
-
@GeorgeMTO OK, I can go with that.
Personally, I don't try to tie people with companies unless they personally state that. I understand when people are limited in what they can say because of "commitments".
And, in this industry, one person can have quite a number of contractual ties...
-
@GeorgeMTO Well Tentai announced it in their discord a few days before Pomelo posted here, otherwise I'd be concerned about leakage of company internal information which would typically be frowned upon in any industry.
-
The information was made public on February 7th, where it was posted on the official Discord channel (under announcements) and on the official Twitter account. I wouldn't leak information that hasn't been officially released already (NDAs and all that).
And yes, I'm currently the editor for Tentai (albeit freelance) and my Reddit account is PompyPom. :P

@HarmlessDave Ice Queen 2 isn't mentioned in that. Considering it's supposed to already be released, I have to wonder if it had a different title assigned... searching for "ice queen" on Amazon doesn't find it.
I see they've tied dates to other titles I'm waiting for. I have to wonder if IQ2 was released, but Amazon just isn't listing it yet.
I WANT I WANT I WANT!!!
(returning to calmness now)

That would be correct, it released on the 25th Feb.

Too bad Ice Queen got cancelled after 2 volumes, guess Otonari won that fight...
-
@GeorgeMTO So, it's Amazon that hasn't released it. I'm reluctant to set up a separate transfer method to handle this one book.
Do you know if they were dropping/dropped by Amazon for distribution, or if this is an "unknown glitch" in the process?
My way of doing things changed when Amazon decided to change how they can receive out-of-band books a few months ago.
-
@SomeOldGuy I always advocate for dropping Amazon as a place of purchase whenever possible partially because of things like this, where they just randomly make a release take longer. They've said on their discord it's "coming", Amazon has asked them to confirm they have the legal right to sell the book, which I believe is a similar issue Hanashi had, and I know even JNC has encountered randomly too close to the release date to solve without delays.
