Books/Preorders missing from Amazon
Starting in April 2020, Amazon has been removing many JNC e-books without warning, and we've largely been unable to get assistance in figuring out why or how to fix it or prevent it. You can read more details on Twitter:
(Last updated: July 22, 2020)
These books have been BANNED and are currently unavailable for purchase. Print versions of the books appear to be unaffected. The store listings have been removed completely. We received e-mails from Amazon telling us these books violated KDP guidelines.
- Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash Vol. 1
- We have uploaded another version one image removed. It has not been taken down yet, so we will try putting images back in and reuploading.
- How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord Vols. 3, 6-8, 10
- We have reuploaded versions with the color images in the back to see if they get banned.
- Infinite Stratos Vols. 3 & 8
- Lazy Dungeon Master Vols. 2 & 8
- Mixed Bathing in Another Dimension Vols. 3, 5, 6
- There Was No Secret Evil-Fighting Organization (srsly?!), So I Made One MYSELF! Vol. 1
- Wild Times with a Fake Fake Princess Vol. 1
Amazon Region Restrictions
These books have been REGION-RESTRICTED; they still appear as LIVE on KDP, but are only available on amazon.co.jp. The store listings still exist on other Amazon regions, but they say they cannot be purchased. We have not been informed of why this occurred or what can be done to have the region restriction lifted.
- Clockwork Planet (entire series)
- The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan (entire series)
- The preorder for Volume 6 seems to have been reinstated. We changed nothing and received no notification. The rest of the series is still region-restricted.
- How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord (rest of the series)
- I Shall Survive Using Potions (entire series, both LN and manga)
- There Was No Secret Evil-Fighting Organization (srsly?!), So I Made One MYSELF! Vol. 2
This book had its preorder canceled, but it has not been removed after reuploading it on the release day:
- My Next Life as a Villainess, All Routes Lead to Doom! Vol. 6 (link)B08FWMX2MV
These books had been removed but are now back up for sale:
- Arifureta Vols. 3-6
- Seirei Gensouki Vol. 4 (link)
All volumes of How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord were flagged on Kobo due to customer complaints. We have changed the EPUB layout (the color images are now in the back instead of the front) and added the "Erotica" category to them, and they are now back up for sale.
If you still want to read our releases on your Kindle device, JNC's premium ebooks are DRM-free and can easily be sent to your Kindle. Please refer to these instructions if you're interested. The article is from 2011, but the steps are still the same for newer versions of Calibre. (Note that you must be a member to purchase premium credits.)
We will continue to try getting everything fixed on Amazon, but we have no estimated time for when that might happen. We apologize for any inconvenience.
- Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash Vol. 1
I hope Amazon resolve this.
It's also possible our titles are being removed because we gave them "manga" categories when they're not (Amazon does not have any "light novel" categories).
There's a light novel category in Teen and Young Adult. I don't know how that works with registering them on Amazon (if it's even possible in the registration process to put it there, if that's an automated categorization, or if it would impact visibility), but it exists.
Some stuff seems to be under that, but still appears in separate manga Best Seller categories like LGBT manga and romance manga, so go figure.
@Terrence The categories we're allowed to choose in KDP are vastly different and much more constrained from the total of all categories that Amazon uses.
Really seems to be a double standard happening here. Amazon is hardly lacking in manga with risque art and adult subject matters. Are other LN publishers also facing this or is it because they're not publishing through KDP?
its so funny that, they didnt erase from start or end. They just erased randomly.
Volume 2, 6, 10. They seem just picked a number and erased them :D
It's probably not really randomly. It's almost certainly because people are pushing the report inappropriate content button on the product listing. Algorithm is probably designed to delist anything that get flagged multiple times. Theoretically there should be someone reviewing these things to prevent people from brigading and getting legitimate products removed, but clearly amazon doesn't really care too much about this.
Bakarina 6 is still missing on Amazon? Any idea when it may be fixed?
@jpwong If they don’t like it, they shouldn’t read it and not destroy the fun of others...
(From Twitter) the upload is currently in review, that can be as fast as 1 hour or 72 hours, only time will tell.
@jcochran I only know the saying “If I can’t have it, you can’t either.”😅
Really, I hate such people. It would be something different, if these illustrations were pornographic, but at this level there is nothing I could nag at it. And if these kiddies are still too young for such books and feel emberassed, or even disgusted by slight nudity, just don’t read it!!!
Those of you looking to buy Bakarina on Amazon, the listing is currently up and working, but no telling if it'll be taken down again.
So this is what happened. I would suggest posting this also on the website as the most will start to look there for any clue.
I can still download the bought books from Amazon. So they don't seem to be removed entirely. Atleast from the German Amazon.
EDIT: and checked. Mixed bathing is completely available here.
First post has been updated with the current books that have been removed. Bakarina 6 which was uploaded on release day and the preorder for 7 both seem to be working, so hopefully they don't get removed (again).
I just reported "Infinite Stratos Volume 8 missing from Amazon Kindle store to Amazon.
The entire "The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan" series has been completely purged from Amazon. Unable to even search for it.
Wow, this is totally ridiculous... 👀
I’m not seeing I Shall Survive Using Potions, or any of How Not to Summon a Demon Lord.
It feels like Amazon has a thing for JNC.
