New Website Feedback

@anynamefor1 - Is there something the old calendar did that the new one doesn't? I find the new calendar super convenient; it updates live and automatically starts at today's day, whereas on the old one I had to manually refresh the page and scroll down a long way as I got near the end of the month.

@rsog412
He's talking about the release calendar on the right side of the homepage of the old website. -
@rsog412 Really it just looked nicer and was simpler to access.
-
@anynamefor1 If you look at the opening post, we do plan to add it back in:
- Add a parts/volume release feed on the front page.

Some more feedback on the forums... Android 10, Chrome...
Several times at different times I'll click to go to the next page in a thread and it kick me back to the "unread" forum view. If I try to go back, I get an error:
Internal Error
Oops! Looks like something went wrong!
/api/compose
Invalid Data.
I have to go load the thread again, then refresh it since it loads my last, last view and not the view prior to the error.
I also tried clicking to go to the last page instead of the next page and got a Page Not Found error.
I'm pretty sure each time it's happened I've had a reply of some kind in holding on the new "clipboard" but I can't be entirely sure of that.
-
@xdrfiredogx That sounds like it could be a problem with the forum software, but I'm not seeing any open issues reported on NodeBB's github about it. It could be something that's been fixed already if JNC isn't on the most recent software release though.

I just noticed this but in the series page if you hover the mouse over a released part it shows the date when that part was released.
Is it possible to add this feature for unreleased parts as well?
I mean that if you hover the mouse over an unreleased part it will also show to date and/or time the part will be released. The date and/or time can be just based on the data in the Calendar page.
-
A good feature of the new interface in the forums is that you can set default order to “Newest to Oldest” to see the most recent entries first (this makes sense to me). However the default entry on the list is still the first one (timewise). In other words it defeats the purpose of reversing the order by taking you to the end of the list.

I really appreciate the “New Books” section in the user library, but it would be useful to have a way to mark those books as read/maybe just keep the “new!” marking on the series after you download the books, especially because it automatically expands the associated series.

There are few things which I liked but are no longer there (1, 3), and if possible one more thing I would like you'd implement (2).
- We can no longer see the individual volume subtitle for series which have them (i.e. Holmes of Kyoto).
- Option which would solve 1, is that by clicking on the volume cover at the Series page would show the enlarged cover.
- I actually liked the "More volumes to come" "This series is completed" notes at the bottom of the Series page. Heck, if you even wrote "This series is dropped by the publisher" and "This series is stalled due to unknown reasons" I would be even happier.
-
@bartzbb At the moment, our data is not stored in a way that would allow us to do this in a feasible manner, but it's something we may do in the future.
@non8 I just checked, and for Holmes of Kyoto, we do not have the subtitle for the volumes in our database, so either you saw the subtitle for another series, or it was edited in the meantime. As for the reason we removed the notes at the bottom of the page, that's because they are either: inaccurate, private, unknown, or would have to be constantly up-to-date. The potentially vague, inaccurate or private nature of those notes can create unneeded speculation about the status of the series. When we manage to come up with a more accurate set of messages that isn't automatically determined by dates (as the previous ones were, and therefore inaccurate), we will consider re-adding them.

I don't know if this is a bug or just a mistake on the staff's part but there is something weird in the calendar page.
As you can see there is an E-Book coming out tomorrow whose title is "???".

I couldn't tell if that was a bug myself either cause it also shows up on the old site on the sidebar and the calendar page. I reported it earlier on discord in case it was a db entry mistake, but I was thinking it's also possible it's some sort of placeholder for something being announced on Friday's stream where it's going to be available immediately and the system just can't handle the way it was entered into the backend.

@bartzbb J-Just a reminder that J-Novel Club is based in the United States and the time and date may be different based on where you live.

I guess this might foreshadow an announcement from their Twitch stream as per https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/4301/april-2021-jnc-announcements

@shiny Or it's just April Fool's Day. 😋

Ah yes, I can fondly recall JNC's 2017 release of My Little Ponii Can Read Kanji!.
-
@terabyte
I have a feeling that is the case as well. It's just unfortunate that from where I am April Fool's Day just ended but on the flip side I guess I was fooled a day earlier than the rest. -
