Multiple contents missing from Arifureta: Short Story Collection
-
I was browsing the Arifureta wiki and looked at Arifureta: Short Story Collection and noticed that my ebook novel is missing all the Bonus Short Stories. This include Arifureta Magic Academy Field Trip, Remia's True Intentions, Arifureta Fairy Tales: Little Mermaid, (Forced) Metamorphosis, Myu Remodeling Project. I also mentioned in a previous thread that it is missing a story from the prepubs based on The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter aka The Tale of Princess Kaguya. Shia was Kaguya, Hajime wooed her in a very unromantic fashion, then dumped her for Yue.

@Tahu Hi there!
The bonus short stories are only available from the premium version obtained using premium credits on our website. If you bought the book from any other store, such as Amazon or Bookwalker, it will not include the bonus stories. You can exchange credits for premium ebooks by clicking on the "PREMIUM" button in the list of stores here:
https://j-novel.club/v/arifureta-from-commonplace-to-world-s-strongest-short-stories
As for your second note, some of the stories from previous premium editions were accidentally included in the prepubs when they were not included in this short story collection. We apologize for the confusion, but they were removed from the prepubs when we found out and naturally would not be included in the final book. If you want to find the premium book that particular story was included in, I encourage you to check the Premium E-Book Bonus Contents List.

Thank you. Also I have to say I think it’s not fair to not include ALL content in the other ebook versions. I’ve purchased all the Arifureta volumes on kindle when they first came out not knowing about J-Club’s premium version bonus content. Same with How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom.
-
@Tahu The paperback versions for Arifureta and Realist Hero, both printed by Seven Seas, both include all premium bonus stories that regular ebook stores like Kindle didn't include. Though of course, 7S doesn't seem likely in printing the Arifureta Short Story collection volume.
-
@Tahu I agree. I bought a lot of J-Novel club ebooks through Google Books and Bookwalker before I discovered the service, including the first 10 volumes of Arifueta. For those of us who have purchased the books through other services, I wish there was a way to get access to those side stories.
-
@Tahu Ultimately I think it comes down to the licensing agreement there. A lot of the bonus content in Japan was retailer exclusive (general statement, not sure how it was for this specific series), so if someone wanted all of it, they had to purchase the book several times from multiple retailers and the Japanese licensee might be opposed to simply allowing everyone to access it all regardless of where they buy it on the English editions.
-
I also wasted putting Amazon cards on my Christmas list so I could buy J-Club books for kindle.
-
@Tahu If you're a paying J-Novel member like your flair says, then premium ebooks bought straight from JNC would actually be cheaper than Amazon, as no tax is charged. And it's trivially easy to convert epubs from JNC into Amazon's Mobi format and then emailing/sending them to your Kindle device/account. So for most members, there really isn't any reason to buy outside JNC if you're already paying the monthly fee, especially so when premium ebooks have exclusive content.
-
For many products, there are collector's editions and limited editions and signed copies and time-limited sales and bundles, etc. Consumers have always been able to find deals or better value by doing research first. I don't see this situation being significantly different.
This is also not new. J-Novel Club has included premium bonuses for (almost) all our ebooks to encourage people to sign up for a membership and get ebooks directly from us, and we have offered these bonuses since the company's inception in 2016.
-
I understand. I’m just very upset at the fact I have to rebuy around 50 books after I lost my job.
-
@Tahu well most of the bonuses don't make a lot of.difference, like hi-res illustrations etc. so I'd do some researchers rebuying any to see if it's worth it to you, no point wasting money.
although what's worth what depends on the buyer of course.

I'm just interested in the bonus stories. Also, I only ever looked for available book in TITLES. And I didn't notice anything to indicate that there was bonus content only available via J-Club special purchase. Also after looking at the premium content list for Arifureta I noticed that Arifureta: Short Story Collection is largely a collection of the bonus content from the previous volumes. Does that mean that another Arifureta: Short Story Collection will be made with the "missing" short stories?
-
I can understand why you may be annoyed, but thinking of it positively you now have the option to buy additional bonus stories for series you like which are quite hard to get in Japan and you know to get the JNC Premium version for future books.

The home page lists premium e-books as an option and https://j-novel.club/howitworks explains that premium members get credits for premium books. https://j-novel.club/subscribe also notes "Premium Ebooks are DRM free and have high-res images + bonus content (when available)". For the page for any given volume, amongst the options to buy it does state there is a premium option quite prominently.
For anyone who doesn't know what is meant by premium, the FAQ at https://j-novel.club/faq gives a clear explanation.
What is a Premium E-book?
Premium e-books are EPUB3 e-books only available through our website, and have higher quality images than the ones you can download on other stores.
They are not available for normal purchase, and can only be obtained by exchanging for them with Premium Credits.
Premium E-books also usually have extra bonus content, like special illustrations, translator notes sections, extra short stories, or textless illustrations, depending on the title and availability.I would personally like details on premium bonuses on the page for each light novel, but the information is listed at https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/305/premium-e-book-bonus-contents-list?page=1 which is visible even to non-members.
-
I don't believe Amazon allows publishers to advertise that bonus content is available on another store, anyways. So yea JNC isn't going to advertise on the regular store ebooks that they don't have all content available.
-
The beta site tells you when you hit buy for the premium what is included in the premium and has an icon to show premium content. The beta site though is still in the works.

The Beta Website has those infos included. More infos are at the thread you listed (as they write "some Bonus Short Stories" and nto exactly how much and which title they have). But I am just happy that they finally included it in book page.

That's a great improvement. I look forward to the beta moving out of beta.

@ShipTeaser I REALLY love light novels. Even if the bonus stories don't make much of a difference I still want to read them. Is getting the Premium J-club ebooks the only way to read that content? Not on nook or anything else?
-
@Tahu They are also available in the printed copies distributed by Seven Seas. As for ebooks, yes J-Novel Club is the only place to get premium content for Arifureta. For what it's worth, JNC staff have said they are considering allowing non-members to purchase premium ebooks, but there is no timeframe for when that may happen.
-
It would be cool if there was like... an extra content sale or even a small discount if you are buying books for a second time. I actually prefer to buy the j-novel club premium ebook releases. I just don't know what to do with the 20+ volumes of stuff I bought before I found out about it.
