Well ,that series is actually good, but it finished this february. There is also fan-translation of 2 volumes and part of 3rd.

That's what otaku call a "western otaku"
-
@sparhawk6 ya I'm up to date with it, but imagine how long it'd take for them to finish all the volumes.
-
@MMKOP that's a compliment, right? xD. Though, fyi, I don't consider myself as an otaku, just a casual
-
@MMKOP ...what?
No. Bunko = 文庫, it basically means "small form paperback" and refers to the Japanese paperback trades printed in the somewhat consistent size format of B4.
Light novels are either published as "bunko" or as "noberu", which is a larger format book more the size of manga. Lines are separated between them.
For example, Hobby Japan has "HJ Bunko" and "HJ Novels", one is for their books published under their small form paperback bunko line and the other is for books published under the larger form line.
Bunko was the dominant way of publishing light novels for many years but lately a lot of popular series as now published in the larger format. Also, the larger format books are more expensive, 1000-1300yen, while bunko are 600-800 yen each.
-
@Sam-Pinansky Yet when they make their way to English-speaking shores they all end up in large format anyway regardless of whether they were bunko or novel?
I mean seriously your printed Grimgar volume 1 is the size of a brick, and that was from "Overlap Bunko". -
@Catscope Yup! That's the way the world works. Just wait 'till Seven Seas hears how many pages Arifureta #1 is... they'll flip. <- Not implying they've agreed to print it yet.
-
@Sam-Pinansky Well, I think that Clockwork Planet chapters are long too :D But man, if they will print Arifureta, I will be really happy.
-
Yes. That is an issue I have as well. But there is an explanation to that. Japanese light novels are published in A6 format which is pretty much impossible to do for English light novels. Kanji used in Japanese reduces the amount of characters used. Japanese is null-subject language where the subject of the sentence is often omitted. When translated into English, the text consists of almost twice as many characters. There is no way that will be as small as the Japanese version.

@Liz Aww, Neechu is one of my favorite series... Hopefully good word about it spreads and sales boost eventually (or it gets an anime!).

NeeChu would be an amazing anime. Get on it folks! xD
-
Aw, you guys. NeeChuu's doing okay. It's just kind of lower middle by default, compared to the fantasy titles. On the plus side, I think it's one of our better-rated series on Amazon.
-
@Sam-Pinansky he probably meant me. That I didn't know the meaning of Bunko hence giving me the title of a "Western Otaku"... I could be wrong though

Are you teasing me?
-
@yankee Yeah seems like it did. Both in Japan and in the West.
-
@Liz For what it's worth, NeeChuu is also my favorite series AND the one that got me to know JNC existed (along with Ore ga Heroine), so props~
-
@yankee As Anime are considered promotion materials for LN I hope so.

Considering how badly ANN (and most YouTubers) panned the anime, I'm surprised it got a boost in the West.

@paul-nebeling it was too painful to watch imo
