any idea if Dragon Daddy pulls an Usagi Drop?
-
I'm intrigued with the series but I'd like to know (if possible) if it gets gross before I get too invested
-
@tunafresh It's a new series, only 3 volumes in Japan, but the author wrote Sexiled and A Lily Blooms so it feels like she's unlikely to pull that schtick.
-
@myskaros that's good to know. I generally don't pay attention to authors but I did enjoy Sexiled so I'm far less worried now.
Thank you for letting me know
-
Knowing the author's other works and how the preview part went, I'd say it won't even go there at all. Looks like it'll stay wholesome throughout here
-
Thank you for making this post. This was honestly something I was worried about.
-
@harunachiep Knowing the author's other works I wouldn't be surprised if Olivia ended up with the Dark Queen.
-
@thegrimlich I feel the Dark Queen
-
@shrike_al I absolutely agree... I'm also worrying about this for the other "Daddy/Daughter" new series "S-Class etc etc".

One of our hints for that series was "It definitely won't go there this time." That one is a finished series, so we know how the story will end.
-
@myskaros That is a huge relief.
-
@myskaros I'm super glad to hear about S-rank Daughter, I was reading the FT a while ago and dropped it after For My Daughter went that ugh route.
I super hope that dragon daddy avoids becoming that ick. The author does not seem to be that type of person, thankfully. -
@jampodevral Judging by her other works, I'd hazard a guess that the author would agree with you about that particular trope being, as you said, "ick".

Oh, bite your tongue. We don't talk about the time skip in Usagi Drop - LOL
In all seriousness, this is really a super cute story, but it also has some minor similarities to a story about another Olivia: Olivia Waldstorm from Shinigami ni Sodaterareta Shoujo wa Shikkoku no Ken wo Mune ni Idaku
-
@elkensteyin We don't WANT to talk about it. But every time we get a sweet story about a character raising a kid, we now have to ask the question. Because no one wants a betrayal like THAT ever again.
-
I do find it fascinating how Usagi Drop has apparently traumatized anime/manga fans so deeply.

Not me, I'd be happy to find such stories, but there's a dearth of anything officially licensed. There's For My Daughter obviously. But they weren't related. Or even the same species...
But at least it's a bit better on the manga side, though about only thing officially licensed is Koi Kaze from ages ago. Siscon Ani to Brocon Imouto ga Shoujiki ni Nattara is one of my favorites among never works, it's cute, good art, heart-warming, not too long, ticking all the boxes. Though I really don't expect it to ever get licensed... -

Siscon Ani to Brocon Imouto ga Shoujiki ni Nattara
Siscon Ani to Brocon Imouto ga Shoujiki ni Nattara is kind of different. There are no real surprises there. You go into that manga knowing what you'll get. Even "For My Daughter" was OK, since he's not that much older than her and they are different species and such.
However, Usagi Drop was bad. First, he's much older than her (not a faux pas in and on itself), but it really had no reason to go that route, and in many people's opinion, completely destroyed a great SoL manga.
-
@elkensteyin I always wondered if the author felt pressured to do it for Otaku sales. Because it felt like it came from nowhere.
-
@salientmind if that was the case, then it definitely backfired on him, as s2 of an anime was never green-lit due to the massive backlash.
If Usagi Drop had come after several other similar stories, such as Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! or OreImo that went to and popularized the incest route, then that would be understandable, but this was a precursor to all of them. So I really have no clue why he made such a blunder.
