Others payment Methode?
-
Hi, i rly Like the concept and i rly wanna buy a membership, but i dont have a Credit Card Like Visa and i dont wanna geht one. Ist there a Chance that in the Future Others payment Methods are coming?
-
IT would be cool If you could let us pay via Android App, with the Google account
-
J-Novel Club currently uses Stripe as their payment processor. Available methods are pretty much what Stripe allows. From their website, that would be:
The Payment Element currently supports Cards, iDEAL, Bancontact, AfterPay Clearpay, Giropay, EPS, Alipay, Sofort, P24, SEPA Direct Debit, BECS Direct Debit in Australia, OXXO, Boleto, Konbini, and Cartes Bancaires with Visa and Mastercard.
Since Stripe competes with PayPal, that is not an option.
If you are planning to pay via a Google account, that would be funded by a "direct debit" transaction in lieu of a credit card, so it might be possible to set up with Stripe, since they do support some direct debit payments.

@someoldguy thx for the answer

The fuck!?
But yeah... Direct Debit means that if you have a debit card you can join
-
@someoldguy How exactly can I use these other payment options? For me, it looks like I can only enter a Credit/Debit card.
-
@abeater Please refer to our FAQ:
Which types of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club.
At this time we do not accept any other type of payment such as PayPal or Bitcoin, sorry. -
@myskaros Oh ok thanks. So is there a possibility that there will be other payment methods added in the future? In Germany credit cards require a yearly fee and that wouldn't be worth it for me because I would only use it for here. On amazon for example I just use the Direct Debit option where I simply have to give my bank account info. There also shouldn't be any company in-between that takes a cut like with PayPal.
-
@abeater You can use any prepaid/refillable gift card that has the Visa/Mastercard/American Express logo on it; from what I understand, those are easily purchased and refilled at local convenience stores or gas stations.
To answer your other question, yes, we have discussed adding other payment methods, but we have no ETA on when those may be added.

Basically Direct Debit. He just needs to make sure it allows international payments

I'd be happy to pay a 10 year membership if you did accept PayPal or Bitcoin (but not BitPay) :)
I don't expect that's any motivation to change anything of course.
But it's also not a difficult addition at all.Started reading ln's recently, but have spent a LOT on anime, wanting to support this part of J culture I like.
So happy to support membership to something like this also to sate my new 'ln bug' :)But PayPal or Bitcoin is the only way I'd do that. I've used my PayPal account for twice as long as stripe has existed, and had no problems in all that time. The fact it completely separates your bank account/credit card from each and every site online you deal with is the reason for that. If a site requires my credit card, well they wont get it.
Security always wins against my interests. -

I mean, you're not wrong, but someone has to do the work of completely overhauling our payment processing system... I believe there are some complications with PayPal and subscriptions too? Stripe has subscription payments built right in. I could be wrong, just heard about it secondhand.

As internet scams and hacking are increasing, we the consumers have to be very careful when revealing credit card detail online which is why I hope J-Novel Club could consider having other payment methods like google pay, PayPal, or from a more widely trusted payment provider service.
I want to subscribe the monthly membership, but this credit card payment only is stopping me from doing so, as I want to minimize the usage of my credit card detail online to minimize the risk.
I'm not programming trained and do not understand the concept of how the page works even if you explain to me. Without the proper knowledge, I am unable to verify it.
Please consider my suggestion and view it from our consumer point of view.

There is no need to reply to my post as I have already seen so many posts and replies regarding this matter dated a few years back.
I just want to highlight that there are demands for other payment methods and people like us who love the English-translated light novel that J-Novel Club released and want to read the latest update chapter of the light novel on the J-Novel Club website are having this problem.

FYI, if you search for online payment processors, Stripe is up there in the most well-known ones along with PayPal.
That said, we are aware that the payment methods we currently support could use an update, it's just not as simple as flipping a switch to add more and voilà, everything works perfectly.

That definitely sounds like someone not having correctly abstracted the implementation and API.
This topic also is practicaly the same as my topic from 1,5 years ago: https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/3553/different-payment-methods-of-stripe
Its been a while since the website got up and more methods means more cash to grab from younger adults. I argued for that already in my thread, so not gonna repeat the same arguements. Eitherway, consider doing it sooner than later, especially now that the old website is getting switched off. -

Sure; J-Novel Club started back in 2016, and Sam ran everything all by himself for a good 2 years. He is very smart, but he's not a programmer by trade, so yes, the site was far from perfect, as I'm sure many long-time members can attest to.
If you've noticed we've been talking about updating the site infrastructure in recent months, one of our objectives with the update is to add more payment types. More information about that should come later this year.

He got far alone i guess, especially without actually knowing some concepts of maintainability. I know how it feels to fix badly designed software, so yeah a monstrous job is ahead. Good luck and hopefully there will be good news later this year.

@derdotte-fgn34d9 We hope so! I completely understand everyone's frustrations and wish things could have been improved earlier. There are many things we could have done better over the past couple years, but ultimately we chose to prioritize other technology improvements first like the new website and the new app.
