Hanashi Media - New LN Publisher?

The Fruit of Evolution volume 2 will be out November 25, you can pre-order at Amazon, etc.
...and it was released on schedule, yay! It's nice to see them following through after fellow newcomer Tentai has struggled so much.

There was a hiccup in my case concerning it becoming available for download on their own site as fulfilment of a pre-order, but an email to their support had that rectified in very short order, so they're looking good from that perspective as well.

With the final volume of the Fruit of Evolution coming out in Japan next month, I'm looking forward to this eventually being one of the few completed series in my collection. I really hope they'll sell well enough to keep going all the way until the end. (fingers crossed)
Having read the web novel all the way until its latest chapter (which marks the beginning of the plot described in the blurb of the final volume), this is one of those rare cases where I know I'll be buying every volume "unseen", as it were, as it's a story I've managed to enjoy until the end despite relying on machine translation (and the horrendous fan translation), leaving zero possibility of the official translation ever being worse.
-
@WaterDweller I tend to buy volumes from new publishers 'unseen' but gotta say this is a case where it hasn't bit me in the butt.
-
@WaterDweller and in this case it is a very good translation. Volume 1 and 2 only had a few errors each that caught my eye (garbled word, wrong word) which is what I see from yen, seven seas, etc. too and the prose was up to the same standards.

Weird thing on the so far Hanashi titles;
- Both apparently were first published in 2014
- Both have extreme bullying as a setting theme
I'm presuming the former led to the latter (as trends pass through Naru), but it's still a weird coincidence.
-
Another World Survival volume 2 is up for pre-order, with a release date of January 31. :thumbsup:

I just wish they'd get them up for pre-order at venues other than Amazon earlier on.
Then again, I've no knowledge as to how the various venues compare when it comes to how long their approval process is prior to publicizing their availability...
There are reasons I'd like the option of pre-ordering elsewhere. -
@Geezer-Weasalopes Hell, I wish they had a better way to promote new volumes. It's an annoying guessing game with them.
Of course, their website is still better than Yen's, so I can't complain too much.
-
@Windsagio
They do seem to make frequent Twitter posts, based upon what they echo in their Discord.
And their websites seems at least adequate.
But those all require already following them in some manner, yes. -
@Geezer-Weasalopes - yes, supporting other stores is a good thing. For me, I've been using kindle since Amazon was the only ebook store besides (with a tiny selection) Sony, so it's the easiest choice for a DRM'd version.
But those all require already following them in some manner, yes.
Also yes to this. If you don't know they exist you might never find them. Hopefully as they add more volumes and titles Amazon and the rest will suggest the books to readers.
-
They mentioned in their discord that Fruit of Evolution 3 is scheduled for February 2023. I checked Amazon and they are accepting pre-orders with an expected date of February 28.

@HarmlessDave
Yeah, they're cranking these out right fast, and good translations they are, to be sure.
[Don't ask where the archaic/dialectic phrasing came from, I've no clue whatsoever!]I hope they make a go of it in the long run, as so far they're doing a very good job.

A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. 😊

I do wish they were better in general about publishing dates though, like yeah I could check amazon, but a major way I shop LN's is by looking at the various websites and seeing what's coming up this month.
With Hanashi, that's impossible so I basically hear about releases on a competitors forum (eg here, although friendly competitors :p).
Tweets are easy to miss, nothing beats a good release page, which will also get me to look at your freakin' site.

They have a twitter which they use, they have a Discord which is also used to push out information concerning upcoming publications [mainly a repeat of what they post on Twitter.]
And, of course, their web site. Which has information about what's going on right there on their home page.They don't have a blog, but as they currently only have two titles I'm not sure what they'd have to post to a blog that would justify taking the time from their other activities.
With only two titles so far there isn't that much to post, other than upcoming release information.I'll concede that they hold off on providing information to most of the online retail outlets until a couple of days prior to release, other than Amazon, so if you want to pre-order somewhere other than Amazon or the Hanashi site itself it's frustrating. On the other hand they do say precisely which sites you can currently pre-order from as time goes by on Twitter and their Discord.
If you order from Hanashi itself, it's DRM-free and unlimited downloads.I'll admit that I'm one who trash talked them when they accidently let their mock-up of a website go live, but I think they're doing a good job now that they're publishing.
They've delivered everything they've said they would, and the English translations are quite good.
I don't know how things are going in regard to the Spanish editions; it's forty years since I had any Spanish coursework, and I've used it maybe ten times since then. Maybe. -
Amazon is playing the delisting game with Another World Survival like they've done with JNC titles.
You can get volume 1 now and volume 2 next week as DRM-free epubs directly from Hanashi - https://hanashi.media/
For Kinde owners who have never bought JNC premium editions (you should - extras!) Calibre is free, and you can apparently use the Kindle app on iOS and Android to "share" an epub with your Kindle device.

Yeah, that's exactly why I never purchase LNs on Amazon. Not worth the headache.

Not to mention their history of remotely deleting people's copies of 1984 (and various other books) from people's kindles because amazon negligently allowed anyone to publish any manuscript they wanted, without even a cursory plagiarism check, so people were self-publishing the full text of various popular books as their own and taking all the money for it, and Amazon decided that remotely deleting people's books was an acceptable solution rather than paying monetary damages to the copyright for all the copies Amazon illegally published, which is the typical legal solution to a publisher illegally publishing books they have no rights to publish
