Acquisitions Speculation - General

@yoshimin Btw, about oregairu, we wait now for vol 12, but all older volumes + side stories are translated already I think.
About vol 12, the date is still not set. -
@sparhawk6 Oregairu is licensed. You don't get it right? volume 12 will never get a fan translation. Official translation will wait until the rest of the volume is done.
-
@yoshimin there is a couple of LN that get licensed, but are translated atm, but whatever. I will wait and see what will happen. Because author itself is slow now.
For now I am most interested in new LN from J-Novel, I have somehow high expectations. -
I'm trying to keep myself chill 'cause I don't want to get all excited it might be X or Y, and have it be Z. :)
-
@yoshimin No they will most likely still translate it. I am pretty sure of it. We wouldn't get the volume before 2020 otherwise.
-
Seven Seas will be releasing Monster Girl Doctor LN in print and "on digital platforms."
Is Seven Seas going off on their own with this one, or will it be along the lines of Grimgar and Occult Nine, translated here on J-Novel? Synopsis doesn't start with a Japanese highschooler, so it's possibly "not an isekai."
-
Alright right now on twitter J-Nobel club is following 88 users while also having 881 followers.
To 7 lurkers out there go follow J-Novel club and maybe Sam will throw us a bone and give us one of the new licenses...he won't but still..
-
@hatguy12 Given that they described it as their return to light novels, it would seem to me that it's them alone.

If they do, great, if not, it's understandable. I know one of the series I read, the translator fansite removes the chapters as they are released under license. Others not so much, and some just drop it at "a bad spot". Not even a typical cliffhanger.. middle of the story spots.
My greatest issue is those who read "for free" on fan translations, with no intent to ever support the original author.
I started with manga, then anime, and then went ass backwards with fantranslations for "is it ok to pick up girls in a dungeon", finally enjoying it so much it became the first novels I bought in 5+ years.
In fact. Realist hero saved the kingdom is the first one I picked up purchased before translation sites..
-
So is the Bookwalker LN (Combat Baker) one of the 4 titles? Which hint could it fit.
-
You are right. But my greatest issue isn't those read the fan translations for free with no intent of supporting the original author. It is those who pirate the official translations. That is not only shitting on the author but also the translator and licensing company.
I usually do something similar: I read the fan translations and if I enjoy it then I buy the official novels if it is licensed, if not I try to make Sam license it  , if that doesn't work out either I buy the original in Japanese. For example I have read fan translations of all 11 volumes of Oregairu and I also own the first volume released by Yen Press.

Bookwalker's announcement for Combat Baker said it would be a 6-month exclusive. Unless they have a very loose definition of "exclusive," I take that to mean it won't be appearing here on J-Novel.
-
@hatguy12 they did say they are funding the translation and leaving the property to the company.
Theoretically if J-Novel Club did license it they could put it on the site for the subscribers. (After all we are all just one big group of grammar checkers) and then release the e-books on BookWalker 1st for the exclusive release, followed by making its way to all other digital platforms...in theory.
If that were the case it means no premium content for a minimum of 6 months.
And time wise it would work out because you need a 2 month period for the subscription upload and another few weeks for e-book preparation meaning a June release is 100% possible.
-
@hatguy12 I was thinking like "console exclusive" to Bookwalker, JNovel Club premium release the "PC exclusive". xD
-
There's no discussions about us getting any rights to Combat Butler but I think it might be possible to license it "just" for streaming to subscribers after Bookwalkers exclusivity window is up.
I'll talk to Hobby Japan and see what the situation is.
I hope Bookwalker's translation is good...
-
Even though Bookwalker's license had nothing to do with J novel club it is a good sign for light novels in general that more are getting licensed.
-
@Sam-Pinansky , is there some problem with Date a Live license? I am just a bit surprised that still no one licensed it.

Fujimi Fantasia Bunko says hi.
-
@kuuderes_shadow 16 volumes+ also says hi. It's very rare for something that long to get picked up for print anyway. We could theoretically do it though... We'll see how some of our long series hold up.
-
@Sam-Pinansky I disagree, you know mahouka 21+ volumes and ongoing , SAO 18 and will be more, Strike the Blood 16 volumes and ongoing. Just a few examples of longer series. One piece books have Shieldbro and it have 15 volumes and ongoing. All series are printed, Bakemonogatari series etc etc. So why it is a problem? If there is a problem with publisher, then I understand, but longer series are licensed often.
Also, I think something popular will help. Arifureta did a good job I think.
