Acquisitions Speculation - General

@dtta Someone else picked it up where they left off, but it's only 1 chapter per 2 weeks. Hoping it's bookworm too even if it means all the unofficial translations will stop since it will mean we might get a release schedule that won't take 20 years to translate the whole thing.

I haven't continued reading where Blastron stopped, but at a quick glance the quality seems to have taken a dip :( Hopefully Sam isn't trolling us and we get a quality TL at a good pace.

Seven Seas will announce some stuff today/tomorrow, it seems.
Have they said anything about any of them being LN? I'm keeping expectations low.
-
seven seas has had some pretty good licenses recently, so it’s worth being cautiously optimistic I feel.
-
@terrence nope they just said 3 new licence so who knows
-
@hyperion Is that the novel of Voices of a distant star? The manga was already licensed and translated and I didn't know it had a novel. I would like to read that one (I almost always prefer novel over manga myself). I would hope that the novel would cover more than the manga (I won't say why for spoiler reasons).
-
@malloc
Yes. Here's more info: From award winning director Makoto Shinkai, comes a new novel of the romantic science-fiction tale Voices of a Distant Star. This novel gives readers more insight into Mikako and Noboru’s relationship, seeing their true thoughts and intentions, filling in many gaps into things that were previously left unanswered in the manga. Fans of the original series will again be immersed in the beautiful world of Voices of a Distant Star.In case you didn't know, Vertical also just released a novel for 5 Centimeters Per Second, which tells the story from other points of view.
-
@malloc Voices of a Distant Star actually has two novel adaptations.
One was written by Waku Ooba and released the same year as Shinkai's OVA.
http://lndb.info/light_novel/Hoshi_no_KoeWords of Love, the one Vertical has licensed, was written by Arata Kanoh and published in 2006.
http://lndb.info/light_novel/Hoshi_no_Koe:_Ai_no_Kotoba_Hoshi_o_KoeruI'm not too sure what the difference is between the two though...
-
Thanks @Hyperion and @DoubleMangekyo
I will get both of those books and read them because I really liked the story just felt the manga was missing some stuff. -
Wow, the second JNC announcement sounds like the worst thing ever. Please let the third be a Bookworm at least, I'm somewhat interested in it...
-
@novurdim as someone who has been asking for food related content since JNC was first founded, and has specifically mentioned said license on numerous occasions, I will have to politely disagree.
-
@rahul-balaggan I just as politely agree to disagree.
-
I'm pretty glad about them building up food content too (food and slow life stuff would be nice to build support for; there's a lot of it).
But I definitely would like an occasional non-fantasy / non-Isekai focused title to break it up once in a while. I feel like it has been a bit since we got one announced (and it seems like the 3rd one is also going to be a fantasy world title).
-
@terrence
Related to your desire (as well as mine and others) that want more non-isekai/non-fantasy, Sam answered this on Curious Cat the other day:Do you feel that your upcoming licenses plug those gaps pretty well?
Still need more "school comedy/romance" (*not fantasy setting). But those are for the most part published by a certain publisher which...
Is he referring to Shogakukan here, who's allergic to digital? But looking at a lot of the romantic comedies requested here, most are from various Kadokawa companies. So is he referring to Kadokawa, whose two series they have so far aren't doing too hot?
-
Could someone differentiate this new cooking one to wild game? Currently ragged with other stuff so can't pick up the new ones just yet.
Also, the third new title might drop tomorrow, yes?
Edit: I read the suggestion page entry.
-
I'm happy with the newest license. The title though... I kinda wish it was "localized" a bit more.
-
@hyperion I think he was referring to Shogakukan here. Softbank also have some, but JNC doesn't have any licenses from them yet (I want Oreshura!)
And as for Kadokawa, we have had only two licenses so far in about 9 months(?). I guess these take more time, are more expensive, or they are just stubborn. Maybe we just need to wait.
I'm just happy with the fact he is aware of the interest.

Cooking with Wild Game is more "true cooking," it goes into intimate detail about preparing food, experimenting with ingredients, dealing with nutrition and flavor and food texture, and balances that all with in-world social commentary about the role food plays in this tribal society and how they live, hunt, and distribute tasks. The story in the first 2 volumes takes place entirely within a hunting tribe's village. It's a much more "hardcore" cooking story.
I haven't read the Campfire Cooking LN yet, but the manga is much more like a typical isekai adventure, they go around talking to merchants, sign up to be adventurers, kill monsters and use magic. At the same time, the protagonist is a cook, and he has instant online grocery as his cheat skill, so he buys snacks from Japan, or seasonings and garnish in order to cook monster meat. It's a more "laid-back" cooking story, and it focuses a lot more on the protagonist and his companions getting along and traveling.
-
Oh nice they finally licensed Tondemo sukiru de isekai horo meshi :D
-
JNC licenses Ascendance of a Bookworm!
Sam, you magnificent bastard.
