I have absolutely no faith in Slow Press
They are no longer Slow Press. They are now the "Shining Star" of Localization.

@terrence Must be light years away then, that's why everything takes so long to arrive.
-
@terrence Yeah "shining" because of the supernova before they collapsed into a back hole which trap all licenses ^^
-
I mean, I'm open to Sol Press possibly improving, but even to me, it's pretty obvious they've had this license for a long while. Even the best localization companies can't release 3 volumes at once soon after announcement without having worked on it for a good while beforehand in secret. Given what I've seen of Sol's workflow, I can imagine that this license may have been held for a year or even longer. (Of course, that's just speculation and anyone with insider info to the contrary is welcome to share it...)
-
Wait, I don't understand why famous industry people like steiney are openly dissing sol press and call them the new TokyoPop. Just because they are slow or have I missed something? Because in this environment of slowpokes it's hardly enough to brand someone the new TokyoPop. Do they even know how horrible TokyoPop actually was? Or is this just some weird unfair competition thing? Or steiner simply wants to topple them for personal reasons? I just... don't get it, to be honest.
-
Hey I’m looking forward to Sol Press improving. I have a feeling it’s something in the background that’s holding them back but the more series that get licensed the better. I will get around reading their books whenever they release.
-
@novurdim I don't really remember Steiner "dissing" Slow Press. He simply stated that he wasn't working for them anymore because of money issues. (I think they wanted to pay much less than he was expecting/hoping? Just a guess though, I don't recall exactly.)
-
They wanted Steiner to do work for free basically (I don't know what part of the job, but yeah). Industry members have also talked about them paying near "slave wages".
A lot of people giving up hope on other social channels too (speculation about running out of money) and hoping licenses can be saved.
I just don't think all their licenses would get saved at this point (particularly the death game manga, Harem Royale), so I hope they survive long enough to see everything release (besides maybe Rakudai). And ideally, hope they improve enough to pay a good wage.
At the least, we know their recent license of Detestable Demon-Lord did well, so it's not all doom and gloom.
-
@terabyte He did post this meme on Twitter a couple hours ago. https://twitter.com/distantvalhalla/status/1190989580276785152
-
@legitpancake Oh, I wasn't aware of this tweet. Thanks for the heads up.
-
Ah, right, sorry, I completely forgot steiner had a relatively big fight with them back in the day and I even commented on the fact. I guess he means/hopes that they will die soon and that meme was about how rakudai's licenses will have to be "rescued" like the TokyoPop licenses. It (kinda?) makes sense now.
-
@novurdim seems like you have an ax to grind with Steiner, if you do take it up with him on Twitter, otherwise no more pointed messages meant to incite others.
-
@rahul-balaggan yeah, I'm sorry for the redundant edge, my confusion was 100% honest

lol I didn’t even know SP existed figured it was YP’s second name. Well looks like it’s time to read some new LNs cuz I’ve read most of YP’s and SS’s as well. I’m running low on finding things to read. But if it’s as you guys say I should maybe stay away cuz I’m going to get annoyed waiting for published translations. I got use to waiting 3 months per volume with YP’s and SS’s LNs translations (digital). So how bad are the waiting periods with SP?
Nvm they don’t seem to have anything that interests me much other then Chivalry Knight.
Any other LN publishers I haven’t heard off? So far the ones IK are:
JNC
Yen Press
SevenSeasEntertainment
(And now) Sol Press -
@hyferzftw No set dates, but for a few of their titles, it took a year for the next volume to be released.
-
@village-idiot lol! Yeah, I should avoid them then.
-
@hyferzftw You're missing a few other publishers. You can find complete list at the top of this wiki page: https://old.reddit.com/r/LightNovels/wiki/upcomingreleases
-
@terabyte thanks didn’t know these existed. Hopefully I can find some sweet stuff to read now.

They mostly specialize in Girls LN, but they do some that aren't (Emeth and Root Double).

@terrence didn’t know it licensed and published LNs until I check the reddit link.
