Given my policy of buying official translations for series I've read the fan-translation of, I'll buy them. But yeah...

      Quof got a break.

This is a disaster, I always thought it was just an impossible license because no one picked it up despite the popularity.

But now sol press got it which has to be the english publisher with the absolute worst reputation and track record.

I am really curious what happened with this license. Did it get priced out of profitability for other pubs, did Sol have some connection we don't know about, or did Sol sit on the license for a long while and just now announce it?

Or was it just a license publishers in the West didn't want to take a chance on for some reason?

          We'll probably never know

@terrence Looking at Sol Press' releases, and them suddenly dropping 3 volumes two weeks after announcement, they had likely already licensed this years ago and YP/JNC/SS couldn't tell everyone that it's already been picked up before Sol Press announced it or were just refused by the publisher on licensing it.

This actually makes me worried about other series with popular requests like Akashic Records/Date A Live :P

@theredjet I know Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime but what do they have to do with the Sol Press?

@eternal-wanderer Probably had a contact with them with a connection to the LN somehow. Their twitter announcement even publicly thanks Sentai: https://twitter.com/SolPressUSA/status/1190771869009502209

Special thanks to @SentaiFilmworks for helping arrange this announcement!

How they "helped arrange" the announcement is the question.

@tusf Sentai may have referred the publisher to them/help them get in contact with the publisher.

@tusf At the panel, the license was announced with a trailer that was basically the anime OP. As Sentai owns the anime license and would have to be the one to approve the usage of said OP as an "announcement" trailer, that's arguably all the involvement Sentai has in "helping arrange" the announcement.

I do kinda wonder what Sentai has to gain from this but whatever at least were getting it.

On another note I gotta say I'm a fan of releasing releasing multiple volumes at once to get past where the anime left off, hopefully Sol Press is able to keep a consistent schedule for future volumes (though I'm not too optimistic on that front.)

There's folks that don't watch the anime until they read the LNs. I don't think it's a demonstrably large amount of folks, but it's potential sales nonetheless.

I have absolutely no faith in Slow Press, I wouldn't be surprised if they had the licence for a long time and are only publishing the first 3 volumes now, at once to hide their terrible publishing pace and attract fan of the anime who likely don't know about their reputation.

Do you like death, war and misery ?
Do you like badass op loli who let nobody got in their way ?
                            Do you like vengeance story?
If so then then vote for The girl who ate a death god

                                I mean, there's pessimism, then there's flat-out paranoia.

Every Sol Press announcement is a reason to be happy instead of sad that it isn't a title I care about. :) Strongest Gamer was the only halfway decent one and I still wouldn't be terribly disappointed if two volumes is all there will ever be.
Well, I do hope for the sake of all those Rakudai fans that they turn the new page starting with this series.

If you look up the definition of paranoia it reads:

An unrealistic distrust of others or a feeling of being persecuted.

This is not unrealistic, Sol Press has a history, (I am not using this term with a negative connotation) everything they have done in the past will paint their future whether they want it to or not.

True time will tell how well Rakudai is handled, and if they can give all their titles the attention they deserve. On the other hand if they focus solely on that 1 big name they will still not be regarded as a “good” company because they locked up so many other titles, big or not...

A bit gutted about Chivalry being licensed by Sol Press after hearing about their slow pace and inability to stick to a schedule.
But, hopefully the company improves, how good are their translations?
I will certainly however be buying these initial 3 volumes. Love the series, always have.

@rahul-balaggan I call it paranoia, because Raitoiro was imagining up malicious intent. It's not a realistic assumption to assume Sol is intentionally malicious in their operation.

@tusf I agree with you that they aren’t releasing 3 volumes at once with ill intent to trick newbie readers, however I do agree that they had to have had this series licensed for quite a bit of time tho get 3 volumes fully translated and edited to the level that they can be released this soon.

No ill will behind it just like a marketing strategy

@tusf I don't see malicious intent in Raitorio's scenario, just self-awareness of their incompetence. In any case, they had to decide at some point to hold on to the first translated volume to pull this triple release maneuver, and while we can't know the real motives, it will have the effect described.

Frankly, I have yet to see any sign of improvement from Sol Press, so this negativity feels justified.
