Acquisitions Speculation - General

He said he made offers on 7 new titles, one of which was rejected because Seven Seas has it. He met with 3 new publishers, which he thought were positive meetings. And like Terabyte said, he only has one confirmed license right now, but he said it is a "biggie."

It has been a little over 2 months since Anime Expo licenses were announced, can't really say it has been "quiet" it takes time to go from not having a LN license to actually having it...

Any guesses on what the "biggie" might be?

Eh, there's any number of titles it could be just based on that.

Teases are fun due to speculation but then a “Biggie” could mean almost anything

My “Biggie” ‘s are both Bear x 4 and Shield Maiden

It's strange that JNC is announcing another title when some of the previously announced titles have yet to start.
Not that it's a bad thing tho, I hope we got the Girl who ate a death god, but since it's a big one it's likely not it.

They aren’t announcing it soon or anything, just that they secured at the minimum 1 new license, they also still have bides out on other series and even for the 1 they have they still need to assign it to a translation team that will then need time to work on it.

If I had to guess what he meant by a biggie I think it could be one of four things 1 A light novel series that recently had a popular anime 2 A light novel series that has an upcoming anime that is expected to be popular 3 An older series that was popular a while ago that still has a dedicated fan base. 4 A series that already has a following due to an existing fan translation Looking at shows from this current season the only really viable option I see is Cop Craft, this is made even more likely since JNC has licensed two other series from the same author though I'll admit I have no idea how popular Cop Craft is so I don't know if it could be called a big one. The only other light novel series I see that isn't already licensed is Isekia Cheat Magician which doesn't seem to be that popular. For the upcoming anime I see at least 2 possibilities in the fall season. The first one is Assassin's Pride which seems to have a pretty decent premise and the second one is Ore wo Suki nano wa Omae dake ka yo which judging by what little I've read of the manga seems to have a lot of potential. I'm kinda hoping for the latter since I'd like more slice or life/romantic comedy series here. As for older series we can just look for a couple examples from this site. For example Chivalry of a Failed Knight is still pretty heavily demanded even though that series is a couple of years old at this point. As for series made popular through fan translation I really have no idea, I'm kinda out of the loop on that front.

AKA HensukiIf I recall correctly, it’s a current anime and relatively popular

Next ones I really want that are known properties? Ideal Sponger Life Shield Heroine (I Hate Being in Pain, So I made a Full Defense Build) That Dark Fantasy Yuri one with the eyepatched girl, a title whose name escapes me, but there's a thread for it here.
 Edit: This one.
"Omae Gotoki ga Maou ni Kateru to Omou na" (Do you think Someone like you can defeat the Demon Lord?) https://forums.j-novel.club/post/45768Cop Craft I'd also like. Alderamin, Bear, Bear, Bear and Chivalry I want for others (and I would try them too). I'd definitely try reading Hensuki too.

Honestly, I want JNC to get Mondaiji since it would then become possible to license Last Embryo and Million Crown which revolves on the same universe. Although Million Crown is a different parallel world.

Does anyone think it's possible for it to be Date A Live? it is an older title that has had a demand for a long time, season 3 aired at the beginning of this year, and it was announced that there is a new anime project in the works making it current.
The only thing I can think of that makes me not think it's Date A Live is because it is a long series (although I'm personally fine with it.)

 @caramelwithoutthesalt
The conceptual idea of a novel that can please everyone doesn't seem realistic given the varied nature of individual preferences. All we can do is hope a new license happens to align with what we like to read. This will be easier for some than others.

@eternal-wanderer said in Acquisitions Speculation - General [AnimeNYC Nov 15-17]: Assassin's Pride As much as I want AssPride to be among the licensed, from what I remembered from discord, he didn't seem to think very positive about the title. Color me surprise if he changes his opinion then. I just hope the big one is some fantasy/scifi title.

My "biggie" hopes would be Kino's Journey or Death Mage, which has a popular fan translation. Unfortunately the former has already been said to be unlikely due to a number of factors, and the latter comes from a small company with only one miscellanous title licenced (by SS, I think?), which would probably be harder to break into.
