@myskaros Woot woot,, I have been hoping for this since I started reading the series.
-
It definitely wasn't unexpected, what with the light novel having over a million copies in circulation, which is more than a lot of other series that have received adaptations. What I do worry about is how they're going to do the series justice with an average anime adaptation budget, what with the battles being such a large focus. Still, I'm cautiously optimistic.
I do hope this might boost sales enough to prompt a printed edition, though.

It feels weird to hear Clotho make any sound. Normally a slime would just jiggle and bounce.
-
We have a Release Date of July 9th 2022.
-
I fear this is going to suck, but as I love Black.Summoner I'll give it a fair shake. The character designs feel wierdly... Off somehow... Though to.me
-
So the first episode wasn’t bad, but at the same time it got me in to wondering how does someone without memories know what a gamer is, or that they were Japanese? But the fight against Clotho was amazingly funny.
-
@grobinson2k1 To be fair, I always wondered about that in regards to his desire for rice in Volume 2 of the light novel.
That said, the first episode left me feeling optimistic for the series. I especially liked the small bit of foreshadowing they did at the end alluding to his companions.

I always thought that he lost his memories but kept his knowledge, so he doesn’t remember what his job was but he knows the basics of gaming

First episode boiled down to "New isekai first episode: One Each". However the animation, music and VAs were significantly superior to most of the trash isekai released in the last 2 years. Compare the animation to low budget shows like Arifureta, Seirei Gensuki or Smart Phone and I get hopeful that the studio is putting in the money and effort to make Black Summoner a good show.
I'm guessing next episode we get Gerard and maybe Efil added to the party and things should speed up quickly. Tho I hope the anime doesn't cut as much content than the manga.

This is my biggest worry for the series. Especially when the manga gets heavyhanded with the trimming shears, like the Divine Beast fight in Volume 4.
-
This first episode was way better than I expected. But clotho should be silent. And Faceless...
-
I dunno, I like the face. And the noises remind me of the lactic acid bacteria from Cells At Work season 2, which I personally found neat. So... y'know, it's a change, but it's one I don't mind.
-
I... I enjoyed that.
My recollection is that what he sacrificed were the details of his life, not his knowledge of Japan, etc.
Otherwise... he'd be starting out with all the knowledge and comprehension of a new born babe in an adult body, which would be bad.Bearing in mind that it's a long time since I read Volume 1 of the LN, nothing seemed off to me.
The VAs all seem good, and the animation felt like it fit. -
@Geezer-Weasalopes Yeah, I recall it being that he sacrificed specifics, but he could still remember general cultural details. Nothing super solid, and nothing about his own life, but he gets most social mores (and I say most because Rion).
-
@Geezer-Weasalopes It reads "common sense and general knowledge still remained in my head" from volume 1, but in the anime this wasn't explicitly mentioned so it was silly for him to remember things when the subtitles says "You don't have any memories of your old world." Better yet, before hearing the explanation of no memories he assumes that he is in another world.
-
So he didn't actually eat the candy in the LN. Even Mel stopped him. Not exactly the appearance I was expecting for Guildmaster Rio, but I never looked at the manga and I cannot remember any drawings of him in the LN. The episode was pretty good, including the side bar comments from Mel and
GrampsGerard. -
@grobinson2k1 why did romance novel music start playing when he met the guildmaster?!?
And I'm sad that they didn't let Kelvin kill the evil newbie murdering adventurers. Got to make everything G rated i guess. They didn't even explain why the bad guys were killing newbie adventurers for XP.

I liked the beat with the outro music, combined with the spinning around the table with the lamp at its center could make for a very mesmerizing scene on loop, if only it were longer.
