The ideal sponger life - volume 7?
-
so I was wondering when can we expect volume 7?
I haven't found anything about it in the release calendar unfortunatelyjust finished vol6 and I'm thirsty for more
-
A volume is never late. Nor is it early. It arrives precisely when it means to. Volume 7 is coming, of course, but when it comes... well, there are factors. It may be that the translator wants a bit more backlog, or hasn't been feeling well. It may be a similar situation, but with the editor. There may have only been a few volumes contracted at first based on potential sales and the contract for Volume 7 hasn't been signed yet. It may be there's a giant radioactive-monster-slash-allegory-for-nuclear-weapons besieging the JP publisher's main office right now and they can't conduct any overseas business (that one's a bit less likely). It may be that the translator has been kidnapped by a one-legged pirate and is being forced to decode a map said to lead to that pirate's former captain's treasure (again, not incredibly likely). Or it may be that Sam's got the manuscript, but it's been hidden in one of six identical busts of Napoleon and he's in London hiring someone to help him figure out which one it's in (now where have I heard that one before... )

it's going to suck if the translation stops at vol 6 ngl
afaik as of yet there have been 14 volumes released in japan with their paperback release, I really liked how fast it's been going for the first 6 ones though I couldn't get vol6 from amazon here and had to sort it through other means
-
@echuu JNC hasn't dropped any project they've started with the sole exception of New Life+ which had external factors. Unless something pretty exceptional occurred they will almost certainly continue on with this series. If it's a little delayed, it just comes down to issues with licensing. There can be all sorts of reasons for this on both sides of the licensing fence, nothing we can do will speed it along, so just hang tight.
-
A volume is not added to the release calendar until just before the first part is released. This is presumably both to prevent disappointment if things are delayed and so that the cover and volume description are included.
As noted above JNC has never discontinued a series which is still publishing in Japan, but sometimes it can take a while to get the license for the next volume (and then they need the assets such as raw cover art).
Also sometimes an editor or translator might be especially busy with other projects/commitments. It's usually better to delay the release of the first part than to have a mid-volume pause.
See https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/3478/future-volume-release-schedule for the official line on the matter.

What does this mean? You pirated volume 6 even though it has been on Amazon since the day it came out? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09M5FX4XK?tag=jnovelclub0b-20
Also what paperbacks are you talking about? The Japanese? The only paperbacks released in English are the manga published by Seven Seas Entertainment. J-Novel Club only has the digital rights to the light novel currently. -
@legitpancake english is not my first language, I meant paperback release in japan
my local amazon doesn't have any of the ideal sponger life novels just the manga, and I had to order them from the german kindle store, the 6th one I got from the US store since it wasn't yet available in the german one
-
@echuu If you want the Japanese paperbacks, you might want to just create an account on Amazon Japan. They will ship most books internationally though the cost can be a bit steep.
-
@jpwong thank you, but unfortunately I can't read japanese
if there is really no problem, I will wait :)

The light novels, translated into English, are also available directly from J-Novel Club as DRM-free epub format ebooks. They can be converted into a Kindle format with software such as Calibre. Some series on J-Novel Club have bonus stories or illustrations that are only available this way. Something to keep in mind if you are having trouble getting the ebooks from your local Amazon.

@echuu
I'm in the same boat, checking the calender every month for update. I read 10 volumes (I think?) before JNovel got the rights. I've been patiently waiting for them to catch up but it seems like it's gonna be stuck on Vol 6 for at least 5 more months. -
@what4evaa just a little bit longer, thanks!

@jpwong Not everyone who reads the series has access to that thread.
-
@timmaaah It's a screenshot of a reddit post by the founder of j novel club saying that there was a licencing delay but it's been fixed so they can start working on the new volumes now
-
@nekroztrish Thanks, it's good to know since I get this series with tokens that I have stock piled but no longer maintain a membership since I don't see the value in the membership.

@nekroztrish @Timmaaah
It should be noted the post was made some 24 days ago, so about then is when they had the go ahead to proceed.When we'll hear anything further depends entirely upon what had been done prior to that in re translating, and the speed of progress since the license issues got straightened out; in other words, those of us on the outside have no clue.
But we do know that the license has been obtained, and that we will eventually start reading Volume 7, which is a much better place to be than not knowing if the license had been obtained at all.
