Any way to pay from russia?
-
Hey, I just got out of jail for anti-war activism and found out that none of my cards are accepted as payment methods even though I think visa and mr should still work with ru region for the next few days, and as such my subscription is dead.
Is there any way to subscribe from Russia right now? This shithole is pretty much dead anyway with endless repressions going on so it would suck if I couldn't at least finish marginal operation while I may have the last chance to. -
@novurdim I don't follow the news for the sake of my mental health, but if Visa and MC still hadn't stopped their services, the problem is probably with your bank - cards from big ones that got hit by sanctions won't work for this purpose, as well as those smaller ones that used big ones as middlemen.
I had to make a new card with an unaffiliated bank to pay for my subcription. Got a yearly one while payments were still possible at all. Thankfully, the card was ready the same day.As for alternative payment methods, no, JNC doesn't have any at the time, though it may change in the future.

While JNC have plans to expand their offering, at present Stripe is their sole payment processor.
According to https://support.stripe.com/questions/impact-of-sanctions-on-russia-and-belarus "Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus are not currently supported on Stripe. While transactions involving Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine are not considered prohibited by Stripe at this time, you will see an impact on transactions involving sanctioned financial institutions and we encourage you to ensure compliance with relevant sanctions regulations in your jurisdiction.".
I'm guessing that means you won't be able to make payments while these sanctions are in place.

@shiny Guess all hope is all lost then, was good knowing ya pals.
-
If you email them directly they might be able to work out something like paying with another way and manually updating your account. That's just an idea though, you'll have to check with them if it's feasible. 😋

Another question: how we pay the yearly sum (premium 120USD) in advance while the cards work? (My next payment is December, but still.)

The cards don't work for international payments already, didn't you see my post, we got cancelled by the world.

@shiny According to the news both Visa and Mastercard suspended operations in Russia yesterday. Cards issued by Russian banks won't work and internationally issued cards won't work in Russia.

The suspension will only take effect on the 10-th so for now this is evidently a problem on stripe's end.

Are they blocking cards based on location or where card is issued? If it is by location maybe VPN might help?
-
@sekki no, I have an active VPN, it looks like they are blocking the actual cards themselves.
-
@sekki Odds are very high it's by who issued the card; what financial institution.
So a VPN would prove of no assistance in this case. That'll make it really hard on students studying abroad and any tourist caught out of country when this all went down, since they won't be able to draw upon any funds from home.

Probably a good idea you don't have subscription at the moment. I saw something about how a internet trunk provider was cutting off access to Russia. You might loose access to the website at some point.

Meh, I would already finish marginal operation by then.

I was able to subscribe to premium monthly today (just now) from Russia. Gotta stock up jnc credits while i can, only 11 left from previous subscription :)
Btw bank Связной плюс/РНКО ПЦ , Visa.
Upd: brought some 20+ jnc credits. -
Does JNC/Stripe support UnionPay? That'll be the only option to pay from Russia in the near future.
-
Good to know, I'd try today too.
...but buying credits is not the same as paying for Premium?
I have 27 credits right now from being Premium member - but they are only for buying e-books IIRC. Not for membership.J-Novel Club staff, can we convert the credits (already available or bought recently) to prolong our membership time? Thanks in advance!
-
@basuga you can use credits on preordering books to access their prepubs (including as they come out). It's not great for trying new series, but at least helps you follow your existing favourites.
