Do we know how Seven Seas uses the results?
I’ve decided to stop submitting stuff I’m interested in to them; their digital prices are too high (especially for manga). I’d rather Yen Press get a license despite the likely-slower translation. Just not sure if I’m better off doing nothing at all, or stuffing the box with licenses I don’t want. ;)

@hamsterexastris this is exactly how I feel

Would be nice if other companies put out surveys like Seven seas does. But I can't think of any so I'm just going to keep filling out there surveys. I think Vertical used to have forms you could fill out but I think they stopped doing them years ago.

Sol Press has a survey (if you don't mind the wait time potentially with their licenses...). You can submit multiple times. They ask for links to your book (Amazon sales links for LN + Manga; VNDB links for Visual Novels).
https://twitter.com/SolPressUSA/status/1058105442465771520?s=20
Bookwalker also has an area to submit licenses, and they did at one point ponder getting another LN license, but they haven't licensed any LN in too long for me to spend much time suggesting there.

(Those links have links to the surveys).

Until SOL Press properly gets their act together I'm not even gonna bother making requests to them. They'll just end up locking LN licenses if they can't reliably release them. One of their new LN licenses (VRMMO Academy) which is supposedly being already translated is not even listed on their site yet.
-
@hamsterexastris Well as for the way they use the Results I checked there FAQ page as that's where they said how they use it and apparently not all Series can be licensed for reasons like Creators Wishes, Past Performance etc. and I think I remember them saying this themselves when asked about submitting the same Series every month pretty much the closest we get to knowing how the results are used, as for digital prices has never really bothered me since I mostly prefer print when it comes to reading Light Novels.
-
There's certain licenses I think have very slim chances of ever getting licensed (especially in certain unpopular genre). Those are the ones I'll throw Sol Press and Bookwalker's way. You can't get too upset about them locking up something that was never coming stateside to begin with.
Single volume works are decent picks to throw their way as well.

I ignore them 'cuz there are completely digital with no chance for print release....

I actually don't buy any English LN from Bookwalker (besides exclusives), but that's just because they have no Text to Speech support.
I spend on JP language volumes though, so they're still getting my moolah. T_T
If they got some license I really wanted, I'd buy it though, staring at a phone screen and blinding myself be danged! xD

You can submit manga license requests to Kodansha USA if you have any, you go on their website to the bottom of the page to the Ask Bot section.
The bot will eventually link you to this:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeHzCoGZ5cgofE-0d9fQ6kfC9psn-1EU4bKLngm_fSpcvl40Q/viewform
I usually just ask for things published by Kodansha in Japan or things from their subsidiary company Ichijinsha.

I wonder how do most people find out if a series isn't out in english yet? I sometimes check mangaupdates publisher list. But clicking on each series list one at a time can get a bit tiring. I wonder if there is an easier way?
-
@artistofmanga Honestly, I just keep track of the industry closely enough that I generally "know" what's been published and what hasn't. If it's a series I'm not sure on, then I check wikipedia.

@artistofmanga Myanimelist often times has snippets of background info on their manga database entries and it will usually say if a manga is licensed in English and by who. Lately myanimelist has been lagging behind on stuff like that since the company was bought by the Japanese manga digital distributor Media Do so I guess taking care of the database must have been extra chaotic.
