Take my money.
Sounds interesting...Is there some written summary of announcements so that we don't need to watch some rambling video?

So basically the new pricing would be like this.
Free Members - $6.99
Regular Members - $6.99 - %5 = $6.6405 ≈ $6.64
Premium Members - $6.99 - %15 = $5.9415 ≈ $5.94The new price is slightly cheaper compared to the old one ($7/$6).

Any info on premium manga? Like what extra to expect?
-
I'm expecting less from premium manga. Just give me manga without DRM, and I am happy. No need for high-ress pics near the end or anything.
-
@tube I mean no DRM is always good. But since they brought it up, it might be simply high res as premium feature? I mean whatever this is gonna be, needs more info
-
@amit34521 Not at this time.
I honestly wouldn't get my hopes up about any bonuses, though.
They will also probably be priced higher than light novels: most of JNC's manga is currently priced around $8.99 USD.

Sam did mention that manga would be 899 coins during the stream (but did not put it in the slide text).
-
Out of the things said in the stream the manga is by far the best news. I've always wanted to buy some JNC mangas but my hate for DRM is more powerful than my love for them.
I don't mind if there is no extras as long as it's DRM-Free. Even if one day all of JNC's titles have no extras, as long as there is no DRM I'd still buy and be a Premium Member. Hopefully they would be downloadable as CBZ format for ease of use.

I also understand that Apple has unlisted people from the App Store before for offering a way to pay on your website that side-steps the app store. Is that going to be an issue?
No, because we aren't going to make any mistakes that lead to delisting. It's fine to have alternate methods of payment on the website that bypass the app stores, but they can't be explicitly mentioned in the app. Meaning we can't put e.g. "buy on our website so we get a better cut!" or similar on the purchase page in the app.
@windsagio said in General Announcements on April 29!:
As a question related to the direct purchases over the app.
I get that offering it is good for you folks, but can we avoid an apple/google cut and make sure all the value goes to you by still purchasing thru the website?
I want to make sure I optimize things for JNC, but if it doesn't matter, buying via the app wouold be more convenient.
That said, I will say here in this post that if you buy through the website, we get more money, because Stripe's cut is far lower than the Google/Apple IAP cut of 15% (especially if you buy in bulk because there's a per-transaction fee too w/ Stripe). So do consider that when buying lots of coins. And once again, there is absolutely no way we are going to get an app approved that somehow integrates in-app purchases that circumvent the 15% "tax".

The entire manga itself will be (very) high res. More than you can get from any other store, especially now that Comixology is RIP.

So it's official? DRM free? I bought a bunch of the AoaB manga during that big sale last year (?) and have been waffling getting the more recently published ones but had just decided to wait until ... boxing day sales or something to get updates (if they're not DRM free then I want a massive discount! 8-) Considering the whole coin thing, they must be, right?!?

The way I understood it, regular novels will be 699 coins for everyone, period. But when you spend $6.99 to buy coins as a regular member you will actually get 734 coins, and when you spend $6.99 to buy coins as a premium member you will actually get 804 coins. (or it might be 733 or 803 depending on how they're rounding it). So what really ends up happening is as a regular member, every time you buy 20 books you get the 21st free, and as a premium member every time you buy 7 books, you'll get the 8th free (except that 15 isn't an even divisor of 100, so you actually get an additional free book about 75 or so books in...) And that assumes you're only buying novels. The math will be different if you buy manga.

Out of curiosity, what sort of file sizes might be expected for premium manga?
Just a little worried, seeing how big some of premium ebook files can get.
(30 to 40 Megabytes each for most of the bookworm volumes)@pcj said in Announcements from April 29! (Recap in first post):

Not exactly correct: you need to multiply by 1/0.95 and 1/0.85 instead of 1.05 and 1.15, respectively.
Thus: 735.78 and 822.35 coins for $6.99 USD (unrounded).
Which is actually in your favor... -
@pcj You're kind of right; we will be selling coins in predefined packs, since that's how we need to set it up for in-app purchases, but if you buy through the website then you can buy a custom amount - of either coins purchased or dollars spent. Through this method, if you want to buy 699 coins, you can; if you want to spend $6.99, you can; either way the discount will apply appropriately, either lowering the cost of the coins or giving you additional coins for the price.
-
@myskaros I imagine there will be a minimum purchase when buying coins, do you know what that amount will be, if you do, is it something you can share at this time?
-
@thecardq It will be 500 coins.

(30 to 40 Megabytes each for most of the bookworm volumes)Using AoaB v1, the highest quality (3840px) can be around 450MB. As for the lowest quality, I'm not sure how low we're going to go yet. 1400px would be around 70MB.

Does this imply there's going to be variable download options for manga? Or is it that you're still deciding what resolution the images will be on the premium JNC versions.
I'm also assuming that the membership discounts are only available through the web site since I have no idea how you'd code that into the app and still follow all the bundle rules.
-
@jpwong Yes, we are planning to offer different quality options for manga downloads.
And the way app bundles work mean that the prices will be fixed, so the amount of coins you get will vary based on your membership status, i.e. there will be a $6.99 pack where non-members will get 699 coins, regular members will get 736 coins, and premium members will get 823 coins.
-
@myskaros So Different Levels of Quality Options = Differing range of coins per purchase? Anything decided till now for the tiering? too many things on this premium manga part.. getting a separate announcement relating to this will be awesome.
Also as first post mentioned that credits will be converted to coins. So it'll be 699 flat for everyone or the amount will differ based on membership level?
-
@amit34521 I assume it's all the same price, they're just giving download options because some people may not be able to fit all the highest tier quality onto their device at any given time if we're talking like 450MB per volume (basically 10x-30x the size of a premium LN).
Credits are going to be converted at a flat rate because people would have already gotten their discount when buying them. Converting them based on the new membership rates would just be giving people a double discount
