2022/05/19 - Forum Maintenance Downtime (complete!)
-
The J-Novel Club forums will be down for maintenance tomorrow, May 19, from 11 AM - 12 PM Pacific US time (1800-1900 UTC). This will only affect the forums; other parts of the site/service will remain accessible, such as the website, web reader, and app.

Forum maintenance is complete. We've upgraded the forum software to a newer version, so please shout out if you notice any features that are broken after the update!
- Spoilers weren't working at first but those should be working now.
- Polls may be disabled at the moment, but that won't be permanent.
-
I haven't noticed any bugs/broken features, but I really appreciate one of the new features: You can now hover over a reply to see a preview of the post it is replying to.
This might help avoid unnecessary quotes and the complaints that used to come up when someone didn't quote-reply in long (Bookworm) threads. I assume this is a new feature and not just something I failed to notice before, anyways.

That and the floating quote button when highlighting text are both brand new...
-
@piisfun Oh, dang. Didn't even know about that one until I saw your post...

Is there a way to turn this feature off? I habitually highlight text as I'm reading to make it easier to see the next line, so the quote button is hovers over what I'm reading..

Give me a minute to find the Personal CSS for you...
.selection-tooltip-container {visibility:hidden;}
- Copy the above line
- Click your profile button (upper right of window)
- click settings
- Paste code in the box labeled "custom CSS"
- Press save
- RELOAD PAGE (will not take effect until this is done)

@piisfun it works! Thanks so much.

Does that not work on mobile or am I being an idiot again?
Also is the limit of 20 upvotes a day new, or did I just never notice it before

Either way, it's gone now!
-
@myskaros oh yeah it's gone was it just in there temporarily?
-
@Baka_Neko Probably a new feature that they didn't notice until someone said something, then disabled as soon as they knew it existed.

It works, but it's wonky. If I tap and hold on the reply citation link, the popup with the replied-to message pops up, then the dialog from the browser pops up over top of it asking if I want to open the link or share it. I can just tap somewhere else to get the popup to go away, then read the message, then tap somewhere outside of it to get it to go away as well. (works like that in Firefox on Android at least)

Was the blue line on the side always there? It makes things look kind of like a reddit thread, but without the indents for replies. It doesn't even seem to do anything here.
-
-
@Weasalopes yeah, I hate it too. Did the person who implemented it try it out on a wide-gamut monitor? It's a kind of obnoxiously-distracting blue (Edit: although admittedly it tones itself down once post have been read). It must be optional somehow as it doesn't appear on my Android phone.
-
Since the update, I no longer see a section for notifications in the left sidebar. Did they get moved somewhere?
I'm using the Silk browser on a Kindle Fire tablet.
-
@strangeattractor it's now on the right (at least on Android)
-
Ah, I see it now.
-
@Weasalopes It seems to replace the non-post related information, if you go back to some of the old topics, instead of "3 months later" as a full width "post" when someone revives something, it's just a little notation between posts next to the line now.
Also I get this strange feeling the reply box is now thinner than it used to be.
