Arifureta vol 11-12 opinions?

I was expecting ehit arc to end at volume 12, instead I got a boring parade of side characters. Read up to chapter 7 of volume 12 and I feel fed up. I don't know if I care enough about this series to finish the volume, not to mention volume 13.
What does everyone else think? -
Well, I too wasn't much interested in the Suzu and Eri arc and I think it took too much space, but the second half of volume 12 is better so it's worth to stick with it until the end.
-
@Zing - I'd have enjoyed 11-12 much more as a single volume.
As is, to me the concluding arc feels padded out to the extreme.
Like those 2-part movies ending a "trilogy" or all of the 10-episode streaming seasons that would be better as 6 episodes.

It's certainly taking longer than expected, but the chuuni series went full chuuni and decided to give characters other than the MC powerful fight scenes. Giving the rest of the cast time to shine is certainly not something I'd complain about.
My only disappointment is that Kouki didn't get instantly killed the moment Hajime saw him again and thus got to speak. He is not a character I enjoy. -

He's annoying trash, but I'd argue his presence made the overall story better.
He's now the gold standard for worthless heroes, that every other LN non-protagonist hero is compared against.
-
@HarmlessDave no issue with having him in the earlier parts of the novel, but I feel he's out stayed his welcome and would prefer if he was one of the students who died
-
Picked up 11 when it came out but never got around to reading it as I wanted to reread the series again before I continued it. My question though is if 12 ends in a cliffhanger? Would I be better off waiting for 13s translation?
-
@Kurzaa Probably, yes. It's not like, a terrible cliffhanger where say a fatal blow is being swung at the protaganist, but it's definitely one of those times you're really annoyed there's no release date for the next volume because you know things are going to be good.
-
@GeorgeMTO better or worse than the split of the ice labyrinth?
Nevermind. Apparently the paperback isn't being released until November. I had thought it was already out being so used to digital on jnovel. Definitely not waiting for 13s eventual release.
-
@Kurzaa hmmm, my memory of how bad that cliff was has kinda faded with time. I think that knowing vol 13 is meant to be the final volume of the main story (fingers crossed for Afterstory being published) makes this a worse cliffhanger though.

There is no stakes, there is no tension, there is no fear that somebody is going to get defeated or taken captive. Reading Shea/Tio fight is like watching dragon ball, the characters steadily power up as they kept losing ever so slightly until they beat the living bejesus out of the opponent.
Eri fight was especially poorly handled because the light novel featured a coloured picture of Eri in the beginning that simply spoiled the conclusion of the fight. I always wondered what stupidity prompts people to put images containing spoilers at the start of a book?

That's why I said the chuuni series went full chuuni. That's fun, that's enjoyable.

Yeah, never understood that myself either. I'm kinda glad a lot of JNC stuff has shifted images to the back in their premium epubs these days (uncertain about all other stores). I often skip over them in other books, flip back once I'm done.
-
Volume 12 went full Dragonballz and then some... it was not for me.
-
@GeorgeMTO overlap indirectly confirmed that the final volume would come out in September because of that special OVA. we are still getting for season 2 is going to be included with a special edition of the final volume at least in Japan. which means it probably won't start getting translated until spring 2023
-
@Elijah203223 it's directly confirmed now, but v12 started prepubs less than a month after it released in JP, so I'm not expecting it take anywhere near a year to begin translation on v13. I'd be hoping for Spring 2022, maybe Summer at the latest
(hint: don't use seasons to refer to time on an international forum, the Southern Hemisphere matters too)
