Musket Girls! ~ Reincarnation Staff Officer and Battle Maidens
-
Blurb:
The world I reincarnated in is a relatively modern era where wars are fought with line infantry.
As a Commoner Second Lieutenant, I'm labelled as a 'Death God' and ostracized, and posted to the all women Sixth Special Brigade to serve as a Strategist.
The Brigade Commander with hidden intentions, and the clueless Sergeants are all women. Naturally, the troopers are all girls.
If this goes on, everyone will die in battle. I need to do something... But what exactly?!Looking at that illustration I was "ok what kind of garbage is that" but figured I'll give it a try. Not bad at all at least so far. I think if you like Altina, you will like this.
Not sure what's going on with the title, is it still ongoing?
-
This story actually has the potential to be pretty decent.
War story.
The main character is a male strategist (his position is not too different from Ashton's position in Death's Daughter), except isekai'd.The military unit is all female, except for him, though for once they aren't hopelessly romantic horomonal teenagers.
The big departure from most war series is that both sides use firearms instead of swords or magic.
P.S. The fan TL appears to be dead.
-
@durask Oh just realized, is this the same author as Der Werwolf?
-
@durask It appears to be.
-
Their faces are more alike than I’d prefer. Not just that, but something else about the cover art doesn’t quite feel right to me. I’m not sure what that is.
-
@Ingraman Too clean and well groomed, I think? They look like cosplayers, not people who march through the countryside setting off gunpowder next to their own faces.
-
@durask
Yes, same author as Der Werwolf. It's still ongoing(and getting a manga adaptation), but it's not Hyougetsu's primary series and he a had a bad case of Covid this summer so everything's delayed. -

Yeah. That sounds about right. We’re seeing glare from reflections off their bright, shiny faces. Maybe their muskets don’t use gunpowder? Maybe they’re laser muskets?
Bossman wearing a white uniform if he’s leading his harem out in the field is quite silly, too. Will one of his ladies be required to lay her red coat over a mud puddle so that he doesn’t get spots on his outfit? Maybe he stays away from the front, letting his harem do all of the work. Maybe he doesn’t mind dirt, and spends all of his free time keeping his whites white.
Too many maybes up there. Need more info! Laundry staff want to know! :)
the clueless Sergeants are all women
Is this a purely ceremonial unit that’s never fought? Shouldn’t the sergeants be the ones with clues? It sounds like too much of a setup just so that the isekai savior come in and put the world right.

He isn't the commander. He is only the strategist.
One of the two black-haired girls is the Brigade commander.
Actually, all four girls on the cover are officers.

Until shortly after the start of the story... yes it was.
Basically, it became a dumping ground for women in the army, to get them out of the way, because the top brass thought they were useless.
As for the change... let's just say they don't have the option to be picky anymore.

Thank you. :)
He’s only the strategist, but the cover places him in the position of command. His right hand is out as if to say “go forth!” (or he just threw his pokeball), and the ladies look like they could also be in a tight formation around him to protect him (which, if they’re the officers, they might be doing if the enemy is getting too close to the brigade command).
Is he an isekai’d (ex-)soldier? Military otaku? Does no one else want to strategize for the ladies? How does he qualify for the post? I hope that he’s not an isekai’d convenience store clerk. Did a god or goddess just grant a wish for battle smarts and lots of girls with guns? At least the description doesn’t make it sound like the latter.
I’m not really feeling the Altina comparison. It sounds more like wish fulfillment so far. At least Regis is dealing with men and women.
Edit after reading the additions from @piisfun:
So he’s the the last hope of the government, then, if a ceremonial unit of cast-offs is all that’s protecting them? Okay.

It’s a collage not a a scene.
For all we know he’s enthusiastically ordering a happy meal at McDonald’s in that image with photos of the girls posing with their guns pasted over.

Qualification: Requested by Brigade leader
Reason: Every other person who wanted the job was an incompetent vulgar creep.Special ability: Limited foresight. Specifically, it is limited to things that could kill him within the next few minutes.

He does look pretty young, so I could see that. Which girl with a gun will he get with his burger and fries this time?
@piisfun Thank you for the info, once more. :)
I’ve been pleasantly surprised by some series that I’ve started to read when knowing nothing about them, so maybe it would appeal once I’ve begun reading it. I’m doubtful, though, but that may be because my head is starting put isekai stories in the negative when hearing about them, rather then starting from zero. :)
-
If it’s by the the author of Der Werewolf then I would definitely read it. I love that series and the author has shown that they can write decent battles as well as political intrigue. The character writing in Der Werewolf is above average for a light novel too
-
@kuali Why would you literally judge a book by the cover?
-
@Ingraman The all female unit is essentially a charity that some noblewoman started for orphans and other poor people so when the MC starts with them their combat capability is zero.
What I liked is that the author tries to put at least a bit of realism into describing what a female military unit would be like in a society like this one, for example when they are camping next to a regular all-male unit, they are told not to go off alone so that they won't be assaulted. Or the fact that standard issue musket is too heavy for most of them to use.
-
This post is deleted! -
@durask Because I was responding to Ingraman's mention of the cover art looking kind of wrong. I may not be able to accurately judge the contents of a book by assessing its cover, but its also hard to assess the cover just by reading the book.
