What do you do about store purchase privilege?
-
Hi! First post here!
I've been able to catch on "Saikyou Juzoku Tensei Cheat Majutsushi no Slow Life" or "Reincarnation of Sherman" Light Novel version and somehow read it using a combination of an Online OCR and google/DL translation. I liked the changes from the webnovel, Mika Pikazo's art and inclusion of extra chapters, expanding the storyline.
But then I've hit a bump in the road. According to Earth Star Novels website, there are even more extra chapters, included with the novel.. depending on the store you buy them from, and you can see the chapters' titles in the novel's volumes webpages.
Not only I can't buy the same novel many times just get the extra chapters (the family might do an intervention haha), but the stores also don't support selling to my country, let alone that they may not handle the benefits. :(
Got ideas how to obtain said exclusive extra chapters?? advices maybe?? -
@AmorVeridiCH Unfortunately legally there's not much you can do. Mostly I hope that it could get licensed for an official release in English, and that it goes to a publisher like J-Novel Club, who choose to license what bonus stories they can, and translate them. Otherwise, I simply pretend they do not exist. There's lots of stories that won't be made available in any series, I try not to let small character moments not being available bother me.

If they aren't small, the story would self-destruct, after all.
It would just cause problems if you lock various critical plot points behind vendor exclusive short stories.

Thankfully, most of the bonus stories I've read are easily skipped. They're often silly "what if the isekai characters were all in high school" bits that are not part of the "main timeline" (see: Arifeta) or tiny slice-of-life moments. Side stories that add depth to the characters like in Realist Hero are pretty rare.

The ideal solution for me (other than not having any store exclusive content in the first place, of course) would be making the bonus content available as a separate purchase, so people would still get the incentive to buy from the store that has it already included but if they're unable to they can still get it in other ways. Would work especially well when multiple stores has different bonus contents. Main problem is that I expect the bonus stories to be available only in digital format since it might be too expensive to print a very short book, that would be OK for me but not for people who only collect physical books.
Of course, this is something completely outside my control so I can only keep my fingers crossed. Meanwhile, I too am going with the approach of simply ignoring the existence of the bonus material I'm unable to get. -

I'm the same. I'll get the premium light novel for the bonus stories which JNC can license but I'll usually not spend time researching what it is I might be missing out on. Store exclusive stories can be fun, but they should never be essential.
I've got enough translated stories to read that the thought of getting the Japanese LNs and using an automated translation tool hadn't even occurred to me. However, if it's your favourite series and you just have to have that content then I don't see anything wrong with the OCR route (or indeed learning Japanese for the premium experience).

Hi again!
Went to check some auction websites, and found these things. Guess these are the vendor-exclusive content:
Unfortunatly, these auction websites are all deliver to Japan areas only, not complete and that's too much for foldable pieces of paper ;p
I also sent an email to Earth Star Novels, and they kindly answered that they don't have plans to offer vendor-exclusive content in the future. And they can't publish the novel's extras as a compilation. Getting a responese was enough for me.
So I guess I'll accept what I got and try to move on. I'd like to thank everyone who replied to my post and helped me, and maybe I'll get another series to become fond of. It also helps that the webnovel version was finished and translated, so I'll just take what I have ;) -

@Cooper-Cummings-gk5u8qq Just to note though, not sure how much these list for, but if they're on the low end (under $20), proxy fees can end up being a sizeable chunk of your per purchase transaction costs.
It can be worth it if you really want the items, but I think some people get a bit of a sticker shock when the service sends the bill which would include the purchase price, shipping to their location from the seller, Japanese bank fees, their fees and then international shipping (which may have be couriered with services like DHL as JapanPost still isn't shipping to many locations). On top of that, you may get hit with import fees, shipping and handling and/or clearance fees by the shipping service which would be due on receipt of the parcel.

Ah yes, the "How difficult would you like to track down these nearly 8 year old goods" challenge.
Yes.
Most folks more or less sum it up about the same here. Barring wiki related work (For those banished to that eternal payless job), reading or collecting such pieces are usually not that important. Unless said person is a super fan of this batch of general filler.
While it's generally optional filler, it's a pain in the ass if plot relevant points are in these.
Fluff pieces are fine though. The wrong fluff in the middle of a main volume can get jarring. Like walking in on a parent sleeping with their ch-shot
