Is there a conversion method I'm not aware of, or perhaps a known issue with loading EPUB files into a Kindle (reading device, not the Fire models)?

I tried loading these directly as-is onto the device, and while it does work, the image is very small and compressed.

I also tried converting the EPUB file in Calibre, but attempting to load it caused the device to show an error screen and exit the book upon opening it.

@ScherisMarie What method are you using to load it onto the device?
Depending on what you are doing, amazon might be running it through their own converter which will convert the images in not-so-predicatable ways.

It should definitely be possible, but it also depends on the individual hardware kindle which one will work best or not since they have different screen resolutions, etc... Calibre conversion would probably be the best option once you figure out the correct settings for your device.

There are two formats you can use Calibre to convert to: mobi and azw3. Have you tried both? (I usually use azw3 because it doesn't over-compress the images). I also recommend using USB to load them onto the Kindle (Calibre can do it directly)
