@geetop said in Animes that are better than the Light Night/Manga?:

I agree that the order has a huge impact. I rather read something before watching it. I find that if I watch something first I generally will not enjoy reading it second as I know too much of what occurs.

Funny, it’s the opposite for me; if I go along anime -> manga -> novel, I generally enjoy myself because the closer to the source material you go, the more details there are (just by nature of the mediums and adaptations in general), so it’s like I’m getting “extra” content. But if I go along the opposite route from novel -> manga -> anime, I am more dissatisfied because now it feels like things are being “left out.”

I really love the anime for My Hero Academia but have a hard time getting through the manga. I just feel the pacing is better (only seen the first few seasons though)

In terms of anime that is better than the manga/light novel, I think the fact Mushoku Tensei's anime revealed mistranslations in the light novel is something worth noting, but maybe not what you are asking.

For the most part, though, specific instances where the anime clearly outshines the source material are rare in the past, typically because of various medium formats, depends on the viewer. I would state Sword Art Online was originally better than it's source material, but that is because the source material was being rewritten when the anime was in production. I'd say one could argue Konosuba definitely took off more from the anime than the light novel, but both were very successful pieces.

@tsukikira The first couple arcs of SAO wasn't exactly well written in the LN, mainly because Reki was an amateur writer at the time.

You can see his writing improve as the series went on, especially if you compare Progressive to SAO LN1.

One thing for me is that some topics are less interesting to me in novel form.

I don't care to read VRMMO novels, unless there is a twist like (not spoilers without details) in Infinite Dendrogram or JNC's Paying to Win. For something that's "just" a VRMMO like Gun Gale Online or Bofuri the anime "works better" for me than a novel.

I also have no interest in reading the Vending Machine LN but I'm enjoying watching the anime. The LN might be objectively better, but I'd still enjoy it less.

I chose not to continue reading Crest of the Stars after the free sample, because it is inferior to the anime.

Kizumonogatari and Otorimonogatari are quite bad as well.

One punch man, but only season 1. The anime is great, the music and everything is fantastic. It follows the manga very closely, but the music adds a lot. I think the anime is fantastic. Season 1, that is.
The anime of season 2 was a disappointment.
