What Other Light Novels Are You Reading?

@hyferzftw Part-Timer runs thru the end of volume 2, with one side story from volume 7 and one episode that appears to be OVA.
-
@raddevlin That is sort of the line of thought I'm following as well. With 9 (possibly more) volumes of SAO remaining, I don't know if I want to start another VRMMORPG series. From reading part 1 of volume 1 of Diamaou, the fan service seems to be mostly in the anime. I could be wrong though.
-
@whoisfriend As of right now, I'm trying to complete Grimgar Of Fantasy and Ash. After I finish, I might look into Clockwork Planet since it looks cool and the author also made No Game No Life.
-
I picked up Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers Volume 2.
(Spoilers up through page 90)
Alright, enough theorizing about the midway point through to the end. I'm taking my time with this one so far. =]

@terrence I liked the anime but forgot it had a LN, I'm probably going to buy the LN and start from the beginning if things are different from the anime.

Things aren't that different in volume 1. The only really neat thing is you get to hear the Seventh Brave's thoughts occasionally.
Pacing is a bit quicker too I think.
Volume 2 starts a whole new chapter not in the anime.

well, outside from JNC, I'm reading Goblin Slayer, Death March to the Parallel world Rhapsody and SAO Progressive (wish I had hold out on importing the books since 2 months after I bought them the digital version was released >w<), also I'm waiting for the release of Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken (I think they titled it That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime in English) on December.
Aside from those I'm contemplating on buying The Devil is a Part-Timer, No Game No Life, Strike the Blood and the original SAO. I wish I could buy the Monogatari series but importing is way too costly, not doing it again, I'm restricting myself to e-releases

Does anyone know how much of the volume(s) Reincarnated as a Slime manga covers? Is it all of volume 1? I might just start with the manga I accidentally bought, then skip to the 2nd LN volume. xC
-
@terrence For most manga adaptations of light novels, there are multiple manga volumes (3-4) for each LN volume.
EDIT: Some examples -
- Sword Art Online Progressive takes 4 manga volumes to cover the story of the first novel.
- Overlord takes 1 manga volume to cover the story of the first novel, 1.5 to cover the story of the second novel. I would say this is an uncommon dynamic.
- DanMachi takes 2 manga volumes to cover the first novel.
- Goblin Slayer takes 15 manga chapters to cover the first novel. From what I can tell, there are 4 chapters in 1 manga tankobon, so 3-4 volumes for the first novel.
- Hataraku Maou-sama takes about 2 manga volumes to cover the first novel.
-
the first LN volume of Reincarnated as a Slime should cover up to the resolution of Rimuru's fight with Shizu-sensei. The first manga volume only covers up to the Dwarf Kingdom, and only up to the bar scene, it doesn't even get to the Dwarven King's judgement, it does catch up with vol. 2 though (it does introduce Shizue through a vision of sorts).

Not an LN, but I'm reading Never Let Me Go by Japanese-British novelist and Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro as part of my Japanese Novel reads this year. It feels a bit like The Giver or other YA books you read in school where you know things aren't quite right with the society in the book, that things are being kept from you.
Got a forward and backward plot nature and they keep you in the dark until you need to know something. I'm about 50 pages in.

@terrence eww a real book 🤢
Jk, I recently finished reading "The Cage" which was a really sad book that I feel everyone should read so nothing like the horrors of those events ever happen again. On the other hand I'm finally about to start reading "Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon v7" which I bought months ago. Was just feeling lazy so I never started it. -
I finally decided to get Goblin slayer
And boy did it exceed my expectations. I'm currently making sure to take my time reading it.
-
Other than J-Novel, LN I'm reading:
Accel World, A Certain Magical Index, Death March (Both LN and WN), Hataraku Maou-Sama!, Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon (And Sword Oratoria), KonoSuba, Log Horizon, No Game No Life (Yen keeps shifting its dates, blah), and Strike the Blood. I own way too many LN. :)
WN I'm reading are MagiCraft Meister.

JkxD
It's a nice change of pace. On Halloween night, I'd like to dedicate myself to reading "Magical Girl Raising Project", but we'll see. I put Goblin Slayer V2 on hold for now.

I just got Psycome 3 and 4 (barely read any of 2). I got so many other series to try (Konosuba, Overlord v2-4, Death March, Kubikiri Cycle, Romantic Comedy Wrong as I Expected, Book Girl, Haruhi Suzimiya...).
I tend to like volume 1s, but tough to get into long running series.
-
Physical, English LNs I'm up-to-date on are:
- Accel World
- A Certain Magical Index (currently on 10)
- Death March
- The Devil is a Part-Timer (1 vol behind)
- Goblin Slayer (1 vol behind)
- Grimgar of Ash and Fantasy
- Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
- Sword Oratoria (currently on 3)
- The Isolator
- KonoSuba (1 vol behind)
- Log Horizon (1 vol behind)
- The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (1 vol behind because I need to reread the previous volume and been too lazy)
- No Game No Life
- PsyCome
- Overlord
- Sword Art Online: Progressive
I tend to wait until RightStuf has a publisher sale, then buy like 6 months worth of releases for that publisher, so sometimes I'm behind on buying the newest books.
-
@myskaros I wanna read goblin slayer so bad! As for Grimgar it's my favorite in this list so far I'm impatiently waiting for level 7 now. Overlord is a nice read aswell. I'm on volume 7 for "pick up girls in a dungeon" original one. I thinks that's about it for your list.

Anyone know if there's a bunch of differences in Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka between LN and WN versions?? I'm sort of interested in that series, but not sure if Yen On is worth my money for this particular series if the plot is the same as the WN.
