Catch Up Titles (April)
-
@myskaros While I still do like it, I did like the story a bit more when Hajime was in struggle city. Felt more like whenever my Pathfinder group is going through one of the backbreaker dungeons our GM likes to build.
Now it's just a power fantasy with a harem fantasy.
-
Both Feb & March have led to be buying one of the two catch up series.
Wonder what April is going to have?
Has everything old enough to need a catch up month has already had a go, hasn't it?
-
I found an ELO ranking tool that I'll be using to prioritize my purchases. It's going to get expensive, so I want to buy the titles I like first, because just staying current will take lots of credits.
Then again, JNC is a publishing company so buying lots of credits is good for the business.

@legitpancake I'm going to take my life in hands and say that I haven't seen Brave Chronicle: The Ruinmaker on catchup.
-
@Paul-Nebeling There was technically an "all launch titles" catch up, last fall I think? Maybe for the 1-year anniversary? All I know is I read that book during a catchup :x
-
@myskaros Must have missed it.

You didn’t miss anything.
I still assume Brave Chronicles was Sam’s little joke on early adopters...
-
@the-green-death And on today's episode of "No one could possibly like something that I don't like"...
-
@myskaros I’m just joking, I actually quite hope there are people who do enjoy it.
I think I recall Sam saying they put it out just to see if a good cover could sell the book, so in some way I really do think it was a bit of a social experiment.

That seemed like a tongue in cheek answer.. but who knows.
Of course, Sam is tough to read sometimes. Like when he seemingly joked "Vending Machine Reincarnation" was a in a bidding war... And then the biggest LN licensor in Yen Press did get it. So who knows if he meant that.
-
@the-green-death I looked real hard for the original post but I couldn’t find it, I remember him saying that he needed to see how standalone stuff will sell and Brave Chronicler was a good way to research that.

Did you license Brave Chronicle just to prove that magic school battle harems are dead? —
No I licensed it to see what only pretty cover would sell to get a baseline for other predictions.
Sam also had another answer where he said the highschool setting in general is dead (in the west?). Dunno what he meant by that one, but I'd be sad if we never got a highschool Rom Com series on this site (previously, we got some fantasy / scifi high school type stuff).
Edit:
Do you think the high school battle harem's are still popular enough to bring stateside? —
I think the high school setting has worn itself out in the west now.

@terrence Thank you for your research! I thought I wasn’t making it up and it’s nice to know I’m not senile yet!

I don't remember the names of my light novel cast, but I always remember Tweets! xD
But yeah, I added the other Battle Harem question above where Sam mentioned the highschool setting wearing thin in the West. I feel like that'd really limit potential licenses and genres if highschool is out.
-
@terrence i bow to your Twitter skills! I haven’t started the LN yet but from my memory of the anime, isn’t Infinite Stratos a high school battle harem series?

I imagine it's more like "high school series for the sake of high school series are out, but anything popular always has a shot."

Seems like catchup titles for April are SisKan and Little Apocalypse. I’ve only read the first volume of Apocalypse, and I don’t think I’ll be continuing, but I might check out SisKan.
-
@legitpancake WOOHOO! Those are the two I didn't read back in October due to time constraints. I also notice that Sam put up the next part of SisKan.
-
Gah, I'm still catching up with How NOT to Summon, Outbreak Company, Unwanted Undead. And now I've got Little Apocalypse to read too. Too many things to read, damn it :P
