To be more clear, I mean not the most popular but stuff that is successful. For example is horror light novels popular? Is space opera popular or dead?

Here some example of stuff in this vein.

      Blue Gender.
      Battle Angel Alita.
      Torture princess.
      VANDREAD.
Historical accurate light novels? Is that even thing?
S W A T squad? Or like saving private Ryan?

I would also like to know what the popularity is like for different genres compare to America or the west. Who are the top Autors and what the genre difference is between them. Basically I asking for info dump on the industry and it people. I trying to learn more about this hobby that I love.

Sorry about the grammar. I never been good at it. When I write I tend to write how I think or speak. Which I'm aware that it is awkward to read.

@JRPG-Nation bookwalker has its ranking system on how many units are sold in Japan. I am unsure if it is on the global store

Check out bestseller lists. I think there are a few magazines or newspapers or whatever you call them, that publish lists like that. I think one is called Oricon? Anyway, you will see titles based on their popularity, I guess you would just have to look up what genres those titles belong to.

There may be reports on publishing trends in terms of genre popularity but you might have to check out news sites that deal with such information in Japanese if you want specific information on Japanese publishing trends.

Though, now that I think of it, there may be such information in English already but you'll have to look for news sites that deal with Japanese cultural media and search the backlog. An example would be Anime News Network.
