wrong discount calculation for coins on android app
-
I do not know if it is just a display error or if the whole thing is wrong since I haven't purchased coins on the app but the math doesn't add up there. As an example: for $6.99 on the app with the 15% discount it says you get 804 coins which is an increase of the amount of coins received of 15% however it isn't a 15% discount. The website has the correct math calculation and if you check there how much 804 coins would cost you it comes out at $6.83 or if you try with $6.99 has the starting point you get 822 coins. All the other option for coins on the android app suffer the same oversight that 15% bonus and discount aren't the same thing.

@ThePrettyPetard Unfortunately the way the app store works, JNC doesn't have the ability to set the prices. Every option has to end in 99 cents (at least for the US store, other countries options may vary), which can't line up neatly with non-member price, member price (5% discount) and premium member price (15% discount). So the only option they have is to award extra coins.
Yes this certainly isn't the most elegant solution for people who can only pay via mobile (perhaps because someone else's card is paying for their subscription as a gift etc) since you'll wind up with weird amounts of coins, but it's the best option I've seen. Anyone regularly buying coins will still end up getting extra books for free.

@GeorgeMTO oh yeah i already figured the bonus instead of a discount was due to some bullshit with app store payment not being flexible enough but it doesn't change the fact that the numbers for what you receive for those price don't line up with what they should be.

To clarify the point being made with an example, over the last year, I've bought the following coin packs:
$6.99 USD packs: 8 = 6432 coins
$13.99 USD packs: 3 = 4827 coins
$49.99 USD packs: 9 = 51741 coinsThis has given me a total of 63,000 coins.
Assuming I would have received a 15% discount rather than a 15% bonus had I purchased through the website instead, I would have received around 64,400 coins instead for the same amount of money, a loss of about two books in coins.
If it's priced up by a little bit to offset whatever money Google gets out of the transaction, that would make sense, but it's still a difference that grows as you spend more money on books, since a 15% discount is a 17.65% bonus.

@holatuwol Someone from the staff would have to comment on that, but it's possible that the app store places restrictions on bonuses as well (like they have to be increments of 5% or something). I'm not sure the discrepancy coming from the app store's take is too likely considering afaik the app store's cut is 30%
