JNC already filters for things they think will be successful,

A series might be profitable to license for the English market even if it has stalled, or a successful series might be stalled because the author isn't able to deliver new volumes to the Japanese publisher (writer's block, illness, their other job).

Staff have also mentioned that some titles are part of a package deal in the licensing negotiations, so some stalled series get added that way.

@Windsagio I worked this out fairly hastily while listening to the announcement stream, so it's probably not 100% accurate. Also, features my completely subjective take on whether to class complete/cancelled/stalled on some of the questionable cases - e.g. for complete I've only taken JP side into account & stalled just means no volume in a year even if it's heavily expected that another will eventually come.

Ignoring the German series, the joke truck thing, and one-shots, but splitting up Crest + Banner I make it out to 222 series (new announcements not included).

        Complete: 56/222 = 25%
        Cancelled: 4/222 = 2%
        Ongoing: 95/222 = 43%
        Stalled: 67/222 = 30%

@HarmlessDave Oh yeah especially for "Me, A Genius" as the author could have wrapped everything up in one more Volume. But as far as I know he only has a little more in the WN and also never finished it.

Still Volume 1 is a great standalone book. 2 was also good. Pity that it ended in the middle of the conlussion in Volume 3.

I wish Outer Ragna had a sequel... even then, the 2 volumes are worth reading. In this case, I think it's better to have read and loved a book and then regret there's no sequel, then to never have read them.

@RobD Thank you for that! I feel like more people should be okay with this sentiment.

Right, so many books still tell a good story even if it does not get completed.

To be fair, I do not read most LN for the story. I accept a good plot/storyline as a bonus. Mostly I am reading just for the world building or science/magic system. When it comes to the non-sci-fi/fantasy genre (slice of life, etc) those I want a plot in. But still even if the author does not conclude the series, the story was still good up to the point it stopped, or I would not be reading it.
