Gender of a writer?
-
Just wondering if there is a way if finding out a specific writers gender? Just that I am completing a 25 books by women challenge, and for the theme 'Elemental magic' i have put down 'A Royal Rebound: Forget my ex, i'm being pampered by a prince' by Micoto Sakurai, but then realised I don't actually know if the author is a woman or not? There does not seem to be a way to tell?

@Musereader After googling I couldn't find any indication either. Given the scarcity of info or interviews, they may use a pen name or are trying to keep a low public profile. That said if you want to claim they're a woman for a personal list, no one is going to be able to prove you're wrong. I doubt anyone will bother.

@Musereader it's very common for japanese light novel authors to use pennames and be essentially anonymous online, and to not reveal their gender or other personal details like their age or where they live.
Sorry! -
@Musereader a random recommendation if you're looking for more than light novels:
Elizabeth Moon - The Deed of Paksenarrion - in my top two for favorite books about paladins, along with The Faraway Paladin LNs.
-
Additional recommendations: Howls Moving Castlr and Kiki's Delivery Service!
As others mentioned - lots of jp authors use pen names and even if their legal name IS Micoto SAKURAI, the given name Micoto/Mikoto can work for either gender

I'm not sure if the magic in these titles qualifies as "elemental," but I do know that the authors are women:
- Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, by Susanna Clarke
- The Royal Wizard of Yurt series, by C. Dale Brittain
- Count Scar and its sequel, Heretic Wind, both by C. Dale Brittain (though she has a coauthor for these two, Robert A. Bouchard, who is not a woman)
- Spellbound, by Vivian Vande Velde
