I’m not sure if I already asked this question sometime ago, so here I go again.
I‘m very curious about wether there will be a notice of titles (novel and manga) where the license is about to expire. It would be very nice if there would, so that you are able to buy and/or download any (updated) books you are still missing, before they will disappear from your library. Personally I am very slow with buying and downloading, so it would be really nice to know beforehand.

Also it would greatly interest me how long a novel or manga is generally available after completion until the license expires. Around 5 years maybe (not sure if it‘s a long time span or short)?

@Silver-Sugar-Duchess They've never let a license expire, so it's never come up.

@saffire Yes, until now. But it will inevitably happen in the future.

Make frequent use of your user page. Download everything your own and then watch for a title to have the updated flag. You can’t see it on mobile, you need the desktop view. Download the update. Check again next month.

So far, the only example we've had was New Life+, which was pulled by the publisher and we cannot buy at JNC anymore. My purchased volumes (all 3) are still in my library and available for download years later.

@sorvani This sounds like a pretty good advice. I will probably do just that.

Buuut, does anyone know how long the “updated“ mark will remain? I don‘t want to redownload each book every month again.

In general for digital goods the license expiring has meant no new sales. It has not meant that existing purchases disappear from your downloads.

There are a few scummy exceptions (looking at you Sony), but that's been the case for Amazon, Steam, GoG.com that I know of. I can still download the Sol Press books I bought through Amazon.

I trust that if JNC ever had a case where it needed to stop offering downloads of an existing purchase then it would give us advance notice.

It's a simple date check. If "your most recent download date" is earlier than "the most recent file modification date" then it shows you the [Updated] tag.
