If you could only read five JNC series- what would you choose?
-
I am a stream reader and there are only so many titles I can read (at my highest I was reading about 23-25 at one point) but I have narrowed it down to 5 series at a time.
Currently I am reading the following series:
Let This Grieving Soul Retire
D-Genesis: Three Years after the Dungeons Appeared
Rebuild World
The Apothecary Diaries
Zilbagias the Demon Prince: How the Seventh Prince Brought Down the KingdomThe main three series I would always keep on this list are:
Rebuild World
The Apothecary Diaries
Altina the Sword Princess (would be my third choice if is wasn't on hiatus).Which 5 J Novel Club series could you not live without having read (besides Ascendance of a Bookworm which I think everyone will feel that they will need to mention - I havent read it because there are too many volumes at this point)
-
@geetop I'd have Apothecary Diaries in my top 5 too.
For the rest of my list, in no particular order:
- VTuber Legend
- Tearmoon Empire
- The Tales of Marielle Clarac
Bookworm would have had the other spot in the top 5, but you didn't want everyone to pick that, so... I think I'd probably put The Crown of Rutile Quartz in its place, as my favorite new-ish series...
-
Currently running series or is this including completed/hiatus series too? My answer would change depending on this
-
It would also depend on whether the "top 5" were "only available online", "currently being streamed", or "top 5 all-time". I'm currently working my way through 3 or 4 series that I've purchased but not completely read, so that list is different from the all-time list. Several series have been read multiple times.
-
Off the cuff, and ignoring any great titles I might not have read yet, these are the five that bring me the most joy
- Ascendance of a Bookworm
- Dungeon Genesis: 3 Years after the Dungeons
- Conqueror from a Dying Kingdom
- Tearmoon Empire
- Villainess Level 99: I may be the hidden boss but I'm not the demon king.
Honorable mention to Dahlia in Bloom, which hasn't updated a year and a half, but is very good.

The thread could be either books that one could Stream OR the five series you could not live without.
-
- Ascendance of a Bookworm
- Full Clearing Another World Under a Goddess with Zero Believers
- Dungeon Dive
- Lazy Dungeon Master
- Survival Strategies of a Corrupt Aristocrat (assuming it will continue eventually)
I'd probably replace those last two with an ongoing series I haven't started yet - either because I want more volumes out before I start it, I'm waiting for the upcoming anime to check out the series first, or I want to binge it in one go and haven't had the time yet.

Several series have been read multiple times.
Oh, which series did you read multiple times? I do not think I can think of any where I would read the book format twice (but have read the manga version for the art).
-
- D-Genesis: 3 Years after the Dungeons Appeared
- Lazy Dungeon Master
- Ascendance of a Bookworm
- Conqueror from a Dying Kingdom
- To Another World with Land Mines
Honorable Mention:
- The Otome Heroine's Fight for Survival
- Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill
- Dahlia in Bloom: Crafting a Fresh Start with Magical Tools
If Otome Heroine keeps up as it has been it will probably edge out one of my 5
-
Well if you ask us to avoid Bookworm...
-
Infinite Dendrogram
-
Cooking With Wild Game
-
D-Genesis
-
Min-Maxing My TRPG Build in Another World
This fifth spot is a bit of a struggle, it likely changes a bunch based on my mood, but I think at present I want it to be
- Haibara's Teenage New Game+
-
-
I had to think long and hard about this & came up with two lists
For ongoing series my 5 (excluding Bookworm) would be:
- Tearmoon Empire
- Min-Maxing My TRPG Build in Another World
- Full Clearing Another World Under a Goddess with Zero Believers
- Butareba
- Apothecary Diaries
honorable mention goes to Gushing Over Magical Girls as it's a manga and I was limiting myself to LNs to make things simpler
For completed/indefinite hiatus series my 5 are:
- Deathbound Duke's Daughter
- The Combat Baker and Automaton Waitress
- Lazy Dungeon Master
- Altina the Sword Princess
- The Faraway Paladin
-
I'm not good with these kind of lists because I like many things and I'm sure that the answer I'll g8ve now it's not the same I'd give next month and that would be different from what I'd say next year.
Having said that, I'm going to cheat a bit and make two different lists based on two different criteria. The common thing is that I'm excluding series that are complete or canceled or in hiatus, so no Arifureta, How not to summon a demon lord, Monarer tamer, despite being among my favorite.
The two series I'm not going to give up no matter what are Rokujouma and The misfit of the demon king academy. I love both of them, and the former is the one that brought me to this site. As for Misfit...did you really think I can give up my weekly dose of Anos?
So, for the other mentions. The first list is made of series that are ending and I'd be crazy if I miss the conclusion. Those are Zero Believers, Realist hero and You like me, not my daughter.
The second list is instead made of series that I think will keep going for a while and would give me a food amount of content to read. Those are Infinite Dendrogram, Elf bride and An introvert hookup hiccups, -
There were some hard choices made here, not gonna lie.
- Infinite Dendrogram
- A Late-Start Tamer’s Laid-Back Life
- There Was No Secret Evil-Fighting Organization (srsly?!), So I Made One MYSELF!
- Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte
- VTuber Legend
Secret Org deserved better and I will forever carry that torch.
-
Oh, which series did you read multiple times?
Typical Bookworm volumes are "several" times, and most books I buy are read on-line when they're being published, then after download at least once. Realist Hero is on it's third or fourth read-through now, and Lazy Dungeon Master is in my queue for a third read-through in a couple of months (doing a first read-through on Stepmon's Daughter this month).
If I had to chose 5 series that would be ALL I could read, I'd pick long series. If it's limited to JNC titles, they'd be:
Bookworm
Lazy Dungeon Master
Realist Hero
Full Clearing Another World
Marielle ClaracBut, I don't want to just have those five.

-
- ascendance of a bookworm
- campfire cooking
- reincarnated prince herscherik
- sweet reincarnation
- rving my way into exile
I uh... certainly have a type lol.
JNC just has a very good collection of isekai series that I genuinely enjoy lol.

Oh I have a list of series that deserved better, chief of which is Deathbound Duke’s Daughter
The things I would do to see the rest of the WN made into translated light novels, what dark deeds I would wrought… -
I'd probably go with these:
- Full Clearing Another World
- In Another World With My Smartphone
- Invaders of the Rokujouma!?
- Seirei Gensouki
- Sometimes Even Reality Is a Lie!
My primary discriminant is essentially related to how much I've reread a series (as proxy to how much I enjoy a series) and these are all ones I've reread 5+ times in part or entirely. And if the world ends tomorrow and I'm stuck with whatever volumes I could preload onto an ebook reader, these would be the series I'd make sure to take with me.
There are probably a dozen or so other series I've reread multiple times, but they didn't quite make the cut. Mostly because they scratch the same itch as one of the above series. If I wasn't limited to 5 series, I'd be adding By the Grace of the Gods since that covers something different.
I've read many of JNC's other series, but they aren't things that I'd go and decide to reread tomorrow. They fall into the I-want-to-read-something-what-pique-my-interest-today barrel. Some of these actually fall into stuff that I'd consider higher quality than what's in my list, but for some reason considering them for reread just isn't something I'm enthusiastic about.
-
I'll play.
- Invaders of the Rokujouma
- In Another World with my Smartphone
- Series Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles
- How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom
The last one is hard. It's a serious tossup between Cooking with Wild Game and Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill. Heck. I'm gonna make a change.
How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom- Cooking with Wild Game
- Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill
Those are my five.
-
- Ascendance of a Bookworm
- Min-Maxing my TRPG Build
- Zilbagias the Demon Prince
- D-Genesis
- Rebuild World
I've reread most of these or am in the process of doing so for some of them. If I must exclude Bookworm, then the next one in the queue is probably Conqueror from a Dying Kingdom.
Honorable mentions to: Pale Moon Reverie, Dahlia in Bloom, Otome Survival, and Crown of Rutile Quartz.
