Unlicensed LN that were/are to popular for there own good

I was thinking about licensing suggestions including some completed series that I guess are old enough to be considered classics by ln/anime standards, many with anime that lasted only a season even if they were popular which then had people hunting for the source material.
Which is how I started reading light novels basically wanting to find out how stories continued, Tokyo Ravens was at the front of my mind and I realised that a lot of novels I want to read have fairly good and complete fan translations.
Would this effect the chances of official translations, I know that to a certain extent JNC don’t care as they have picked up a couple of stories that I was reading translations of. Chivalry of a Failed Knight being a good example given there was excellent translations of the first dozen or so novels long before Sol press picked it up.
So I was just wondering if there’s a tipping point between what publishers would consider a lost cause and still profitable.

It's a combination of age, length of story, and completeness and accuracy of the existing translation that makes most titles a non-starter, from my understanding. Most older titles just don't sell that well and J-Novel are really good about not abandoning series so any old, long series is a major risk.
If it's already got a good fan translation then that also adds to the risk... how many people that would normally pick up an older title end up passing on it because they have already read it via fan translation?

I would love for someone to get the official licenses for Fate/Zero or The el-Melloi Case Files novels.
Somewhat obscure, the novels for some of my fave manga like Sweet Reincarnation, A Mild Noble’s Vacation Suggestion, or The Savior’s Book Café Story in Another World.
More obscurely Yatteraneeze, Kichiku Megane, Maria-sama ga Miteru, and The Hero (♀) Hypnotized The Demon King (♀) (all BL and GL so I know that's never going to happen 🥲)

It is good for a title to be popular, because more fans means more people willing to spend money.
Older titles tend to be less popular than newer ones. -

I might be outside the norm but I'm willing to spend a pretty penny to get merch from older series I like.
