Fuck yeah, this should be good hopefully. Hype.

I could not handle reading this series, but I would like to see the anime of it.
-
I wasn't a super fan of the LN but I'll try watching the first episodes to see if the story works better in that format.
-
@Lex - the Unwanted Undead anime did a good job of keeping the good parts of the LN while throwing away much of squirrel-brain Rentt's pointless digressions and repeated repetition so there's a chance.
Since it's about a swordmaster we can hope that they'll pay for some decent animation of that part.

@HarmlessDave well at the worst it will make a cracking drinking game, take a drink everytime he thinks he's to old or that he's weak and lacks talent.
If they don't fix it at least a little you would be hammered 5 minutes into every episode.

well, I don't know how or why but AMAZON PRIME is the streaming service that licensed this one - having NOT read the LN's (yet) and just watched episode 1 here are my thoughts:
- "I'm old" from some guy in his 40's - yet whose father harasses to go find a wife and get him some grandkids to cuddle, gives me some blacksmith vibes (not in a great way)
- hidden badass (from himself) similar to that guy who parries everything
- secret chad? unasked for harem? not sure how this will develop, and not sure how I feel about plot of former students apparently 'hot for teacher' If this is played light/humorous could be fun- if mishandled - could be squick
- something about the character design or VA: reminds me of Paul Greyrat
so far good enough for me to want to watch the series, maybe pick up the LN?

I've seen similar comments to this elsewhere. But I'm curious why 'hot for teacher' is so much a sticking point, especially since it seems like they haven't been his students in a decade.
I'd understand complaints over the significant age gap, but not so much the 'hot for teacher' since it so far seems more like an excuse (rather their only point of connection) than truth. Heck, with Allucia the power dynamic is now inverted from their former teacher/disciple relationship. She's captain and he's an instructor, essentially making her his boss.
My biggest issue with Allucia's crush is that it's basically out of nowhere, no foundations or justification for it is even given. It just seems to exist. If it was because he's the best teacher ever or something like that, then I could at least understand the 'hot for teacher' comments.
