INFORMATIONAL
Alright this is for whenever someone who's better at web design starts a wiki. Its also an informational to help me keep track of what's going on and who's who.
We are introduced to our two primary enemies the Chancellor and the Minister of Ceremony in "An Empire in Decline." They are the leaders of the two largest factions in the empire.
The Chancellor aka Karl de Van-Raul or Duke Raul or Duke Raul II: Looks to be about forty and is the apex of the empire's political scene (on paper this is the emperor but things aren't working the way they are supposed to). Called "a fat cat plundering the empire to line his own pockets." Also the eldest son of the emperor's great grandfather's younger brother (his, I'm pretty sure paternal, grandfather's cousin or the emperor's first cousin twice removed). He is also the elder brother of the Emperor's late grandmother, a previous empress consort (thus paternal grandmother). This marriage between first cousins would traditionally have been illegal but Duke Raul's younger brother is the empire's spiritual leader (from An Empire in Decline). Additionally he betrothed his son to Lady Maria, the Emperor's aunt (Inheritance Law).
The Minister of Ceremony aka Phillip de Garde-Agrincarl or Duke Agincarl or "the Grand Duke": Considered "old" and well known for making new government positions for his cronies. As much a vulture as the Chancellor. The emperor's maternal grandfather as well as the younger half brother (different mother) of the Emperor's great-grandfather. His political power stems in large part from the fact that he is the father of the regent, the mother of the current Emperor and his ability to make new positions for his cronies (from An Empire in Decline). Possibly responsible for the death of the previous Emperor, the current Emperor's grandfather (Funeral Prayer).
The Regent aka Lady Acretia: The mother of the current Emperor and technically the leader of her father, the Minister of Ceremony's, faction, called "The Regency's Faction." Is terrible at politics and instead spends time with her lover. Has a lover and everyone knows it. The child she had with him died, likely killed by her father as an embarrassment. The emperor doesn't wish to call her a mother (from An Empire in Decline). Paranoid about Duke Raul, the Chancellor, and ordered the child Emperor's Lady's in waiting not to speak to him without permission. Wears considerable perfume (Inheritance Law).
The Factions also introduced in "An Empire in Decline"
Chancellor's Faction: Held the upper hand because the Regent is spending her time grieving her dead child rather then attending to politics. Because of this the most important acting individual, legally anyway, is the Chancellor. The Regent outranks him theoretically second only to the Emperor but the Emperor is too young to be involved in politics and the Regent herself is absent (An Empire in Decline). Additionally Duke Raul (the Chancellor) is a landed noble and holds sway over just about half the geographic empire which includes the most martially developed territories. This makes him the preeminent military power within the empire which translates into the strongest politically (Inheritance Law). Another important member of the faction is Archprelate George V who is the highest authority in the Western Orthodoxy and younger brother of Chancellor Raul. Relationships between the two are complex (Running Through the Night).Regency's Faction: Nominally lead by the Regent but in reality lead by her father Duke Agincarl. The lack of their formal leader is putting them at a disadvantage in disputes (An Empire in Decline). Additionally many of the Regency's faction don't think the women should be involved in politics, espeshally the Regent's father Duke Agincarl (Running Through the Night). However they still maintain significant authority as Duke Agincarl, the Minister of Ceremony, is the next in line to the throne making it impossible for Duke Raul to declare independence without being branded a rebel and traitor (Inheritance Law).
Neutral Faction: Blanket term for anyone who isn't in the pocket of the Chancellor's faction or the regency. Mainly composed of bureaucrats who don't own land and are thus dependent on the empire for survival. This faction is in decline as their positions are under threat from the other two (An Empire in Decline). Still it contains several important individuals including:
- Count Geoffroi de Nunvalle, Minster of Finance: Balding scalp, constantly unwell complexion and stress ulcers. In charge of the Empire's Economic situation. He's getting screwed over by the Dukes (The Blue-Eyed Fiance).
- Duke Richter de Van-Warren: A former Imperial Grand Martial, the highest position in the Empire's military and an excellent general. Lost an eye in battle and possessed a scared face and a rugged military air. Stripped of rank as accountable for the death of Crown Prince Jean. Has a daughter named Nadine (The Blue-Eyed Fiance).
- Count Palatine Alfred le Vodedt: Publicly without position or faction. Privately the Imperial spymaster. Has declared that he will side with whoever places the crown on the Emperor's head, though not for how long. As the head of House Vodebt he is the Rotahl's legacy's protectors. He claims to be loyal to "the successor of the Rotahl legacy," not the Emperor, Empire, or Imperial House Bundarte. Saw through Carmine's "child" act. Carmine chose to rely on him but worries about his fanaticism. Failing to protect the previous emperor and crown prince caused every other member of the Vodebt house to take their own life in penance (The Ancient Watchmen).
History of the Rotahl Empire: Begins 101 years before the New Calendar with the "Early Giolus Dynasty," a term used by modern historians, and Kingdom of Rotahl. This kingdom maintained a hegemony over the lands to the West of the Heavensrech Mountains which divide the continent in two from north to south. The Kingdom of Rotahl adopted the First Faith in 53 to avoid its religious subordination to the Grand Monarchy of Karnaan. On adopting the First faith and doing away with its earlier polytheistic one the Kingdom of Rotahl re-established itself as the Rotahl Empire, naming itself after a legendary "Harperion Empire." The the modern Bundarte Empire draws legitimacy as successors of Rotahl. (Silver Killing Intent).
Collapse of the Rotahl Empire: Following the "Great Revolution" in 220 provoked by the tyranny of the Chancellor at the time and the sacking of the imperial capital of Odieunau in 222 The Rotahl Empire began to collapse. A religious civil war (234-239 between two First Faith factions the state religion of Western Orthodoxy and True Inheritors) caused a more total collapse. The age following its destruction is known as "the age of strife" beginning in 245. The Early Giolus Dynasty fell in 248 to the Garfurian mercenary Graccion. The Chancellor at the time, not the same one as during the great revolution, smuggled the complete set of crown jewels out of the capital to the fortress city of Halreau and crowned himself the successor of the Rotahl Empire. This was called the Feyterre Dynasty but it was overthrown by a member of the Giolus dynasty's surviving imperial family. Rotahl loyalists consider this "late Giolus dynasty" the true successor. This did not save them from being overthrown by the Celdonoire Dynasty. Feyterre and Celdonoire's lack of legitimacy sometimes gets them called "Imposter Dynasties" (Silver killing Intent).
Before the Founding of Bundarte Empire
The Bundartians were a nomadic, equestrian people indigenous to the region now known as the Garfure Republic which lies to the Northeast of the current Empire. A branch clan named Garde distinguished themselves and were landed by the Early Giolus Dynasty. Other clans later joined or were driven to them making them a fairly major power. Additionally while they were not able to prevent the Early Giolus dynasty's fall they did shelter a member of the imperial family and marry into it thus granting them the title of Duke (highest rank of Imperial nobility) leading to the late Giolus dynasty. When Graccion, a Garfurian mercenary declaring himself emperor by possession of the crown jewels, the Regime Wars started with the Celdinoire Dynasty joining in. A group of rank-and file officers gathered up a number of key items, flag and coat of arms, crown, seal of office and broke through the siege around the capital. These were later presented to Duke Bundarte later Emperor Carmine (the original not the MC) (Silver killing Intent).History of the Garfurian republic
The Garfurian republic is the original home of the Bundartian people. The late Giolus Dynasty fell to the Kingdom of Garfure, lead at the time by the grandchild of Graccion who remains a hero to the Garfurian people. The Regime Wars as they are known took Garfurian from kingdom to empire to modern day republic (Silver killing Intent).History of the Bundarte Empire
A distant relative of the former emperor named Cardinal founded the current Bundarte Empire 145 years before the MC was born (The Day a Leader Was Born) or 310 by New Calendar standard, 150 years before 460. The MC is the eighth emperor of the Bundarte Empire (Mana Absorption). Previous Emperors include:- Emperor Cardinal, first Emperor, also called Emperor Paterfamilias founded the Bundarte empire as a successor nation to the Rotahl Empire. Was met with cheers by the common people when he traveled throughout the land (The Day a Leader was Born). Emperor Cardinal had just finished suppressing Bundartian unrest when he was given key items, flag, coat of arms, seal. As the rightful successor by imperial law he seized the Late Giolus's dynasty's lands invaded deep into Celdonoire Dynasty territory and near the hostile capital of Halreau he declared his ascension to the Imperial Throne of the new Bundarte Empire on what is now Founder's Hill (Silver killing Intent). In nine years he conquered four more nations that had declared independence during the Giolus Dynasty's downfall. It is said that he never lost on the battlefield. By the time of his death by illness only the Kingdoms of Aincarl and Teyanave remained from the old Rotahl Empire (If It Stinks Put a Lid on It).
- Emperor Edward I, second Emperor, called "the Corpulent." Put the Kingdom of Agincarl into vassalage and conquered the Kingdom of Teyanave. He also completed the new imperial capital, named Cardinal after his father, but died suddenlty at 38 (If It Stinks Put a Lid on It).
- Emperor Charles I the third Emperor, called "the Fortunate." He repelled a Garfurian invasion (If It Stinks Put a Lid on It).
- Emperor Edward II, forth Emperor, known for wise leadership. Held the fiftieth anniversary of the Bundarte Empire's founding (The Day a Leader was Born).
- Emperor Edward III, sixth Emperor, known for his infamous venal office policy. Sold the imperial guard offices and, even more foolishly, the power of appointment (The Founding Day Festivities).
- Emperor Edward IV, seventh Emperor, grandfather of the current emperor. Abolished the venal office system but not before a lot of damage had already been done (The Founding Day Festivities). Had two sisters but only one son the Crown Prince Jean (Three Houses Cup) along with his two daughters, (Inheritance Law).
Crown Prince Jean: The Emperor's late father, and the only son of the previous Emperor Edward IV (Inheritance Law). He was married to Acretia with lady Norn de Alleman, who died in prison when the Emperor was four, and one other (later we learn is named Vera-Sylvie in "If It Stinks Put a Lid on It) as concubines. Also had a natural child with a commoner woman (Funeral Prayer). Has two sisters, still living. One married and is now the queen of a foreign nation. Died in battle (Inheritance Law).
Emperor Edward IV: The previous Emperor and grandfather of the current one. Three known children. His only son was Crown Prince Jean who died in battle. As the public story goes the news of his son and heir's death in battle caused the Emperor to succumb to grief and die though he was "obviously assassinated" (Inheritance Law).
First Faith: The Empire's religion. Founded by the legendary Ein who was born on a neighboring continent. According to the faith he could hear the voice of God but didn't believe it instead thinking that it was mere witchcraft. When God made him an "Illuminatus" thus granting him the power of miracles Ein finally believed and went forth as God's messenger. During this time he encountered all sorts of hardships but overcame them with the power of miracles until arriving on same continent as the Empire where his teachings spread (Funeral Prayer). Ein's arrival on the continent is year one of the New Calendar, the continental standard (The Day a Leader Was Born). Once he arrived on the Eastern Continent (where the Empire is) his follows more advanced technology allowed the First Faith to spread (Chance Encounter). The First Faith is the state religion of nearly every nation on the continent. It is monotheistic and primarily concerned with living in accordance with God's teachings as left behind by the Illuminatus Ein called the "Prime Tenets." It also contains a holy scripture which contains words gathered by Ein's disciples after his passing. (Which is Truly Terrifying: God, or Man). The First Faith forbids suicide (The Ancient Watchmen). The First Faith first spread on the eastern side of the Heavensreach Mountains. It also contains several denominations including:
- Imperial Faith: Influenced by the "Apocalyptist creed." Believes the Imperium was a sacred nation recognized by Ein himself. The first denomination to be enshrined as a state religion. When the end comes only the Imperium would be saved as it was the "chosen land."
- True Inheritors: Also influenced by the "Apocalyptist creed" though they believe the chosen land to be where Ein first set foot on the continent hence Tomis-Ashinaqui as True Inheritors desire to conqueror that place.
- Fundamentalism: Believe that Ein's teachings include no apocalyptic messages and that a formally recognized church isn't a necessary vehicle for prayer.
- Orthodoxy: Founded by Fundamentalist moderates and Imperial Faith reformists. State religion for every nation east of the Heavensreach Mountains that was an enemy of the Imperium.
- Western Orthodoxy: Formed when the Rotahl Empire after adopting the True Inheritors as a state religion found they were theologically subservient to a vassal state. To solve the resulting political crisis a new religion was formed.
- Regressionists: the most conservative of the "True Inheritors" formed this
Empire's Laws: The Bundarte Empire speaking very generally has two sets of laws. One is a holdover from the previous Rotahl Empire and the other are the laws of the Bundarte people who migrated to the Rotahl Empire before it collapsed and became nobility. In terms of inheritance "Familial Law" refers to the laws of the Bundarte people while "Imperial Law" refers to the leftover laws of the old Rotahl Empire. Familial Law does not recognize female inheritance (Agnatic primogeniture) but Imperial Law does, albeit it is male biased (Male-preference primogeniture). Both laws are on the books making legal matters potentially quite confusing (Inheritance Law).
Princess Rosaria Van-Chalonge-Cruveillier or Princess Rosaria: The first princess of the Kingdom of Belvere. Curly blond hair, sapphire eyes and a clear voice. Engaged to the Emperor at their first meeting (The Blue-Eyed Fiance). Daughter of King Alexi, the twenty-sixth monarch of the Kingdom of Belvere (A Chance Encounter).
Kingdom of Belvere: Founded in 163 or 297 years ago before the 150 empire anniversary. It had a close relationship with the Bundarte Empire that went all the way back to the Rotahl Empire. Their royal family are distant relatives of the Bundarte Empire's Imperial one (The Day a Leader Was Born). Currently being invaded by the Tomis-Ashinaqui nationstate which follows the "True Inheritors" a vocal branch of the First Faith who believe that the area Illuminatus Ein first set foot upon when he arrived at the eastern continent is sacred. Since this happens to be right next to Bevere's capital Tomis-Ashinaqui are hoping to take the kingdom by force (A Chance Encounter).
Teiwa Imperium: Major power on par with the Bundarte Empire (A Chance Encounter). Located on the eastern side of the Heavensreach Mountains with the Empire on the western side. The Imperial Faith is the state religion. When it adopted the first faith the state sponsored efforts to build churches and other places of prayer (Which is Truly Terrifying: God, or Man).
Balthazar Chevillard: A common born imperial guardsman appointed because of his exemplary ability. Scorned by his old comrades for his new appointment and his new ones for his common birth he nevertheless maintains discipline (A Chance Encounter). Indirectly sparked Carmine's decision to rule his own Empire.
Timona Rouxnen: Chosen by the Regent as Carmine's "chief attendant" which in the Agincarl cultural sphere, where the Regent grew up, is customarily a nobleman's favorite, a male lover. Timona's contempt for the practice had caused him to refuse all other offers but his father could not turn down a request from the emperor, even if Carmine himself made no such request. (Silver Killing Intent)
Baron Frederick Rouxnen: Father of Timona Rouxnen. Far more rugged then his son though possessed of perfect manners. Supposed to teach the Emperor foreign languages he also taught Carmine to read rather then by memorization. Officially a member of the Regent's faction but not truly loyal to them (Silver killing Intent). His decision to discuss religion with the young Emperor, and specifically to denounce the use of the first faith as a tool for oppression, landed him in prison under suspicion of hearsay. (Running Through the Night).
Vera-Sylvie le Chapelier: Daughter of Count Chamneau former concubine of Prince Jean. Imprisoned in a tower by the Regent.
Archprelate George V: highest authority in the Western Orthodoxy and younger brother of Chancellor Raul. Put in place a policy of arrests and forcefull conversion of those unaffiliated with the Western Orthodox church. This policy was most heavily enforced in his brother, Duke Raul's territories in particular (Running Through the Night).

@bf3ubvf really appreciate this. Inhave bookmarked. I am sure I will visit thos thread often for reference.
-
@wanderer_1204 I had time and I'm kind of compulsive about this kind of stuff. I hope people put it to good use. I'd also really appreciate it if someone could make a wiki and start moving things to it.
-
Probably add the proper series tag [imperial], so when readers click on that this will show up as well as the discussion/correction topics?
-
@Geezer-Weasalopes Will do. Please tell me if any other tags should be added.

Breaking this down to manageable chunks. This will be for People and Factions in the Modern Empire
This marriage between first cousins would traditionally have been illegal but Duke Raul's younger brother is the empire's spiritual leader (from An Empire in Decline). Additionally he betrothed his son to Lady Maria, the Emperor's aunt (Inheritance Law). He possesses a large estate throughout the eastern half of the Empire bordering the Garfure Republic and a large private army with mass produced cannons (The Teyanave Confederation Secedes).
The Agincarl region that makes his estate is in the southwest of the empire (The Teyanave Confederation Secedes).

The Count possesses a son who is blind. This is attributed to experiments with poison. He is also the guardian of Fabio Denouet
Daughter of King Alexi, the twenty-sixth monarch of the Kingdom of Belvere. Saw through Emperor Carmine's "child act" on their first meeting (A Chance Encounter). Is immensely intelligent capably playing along with the child act to aid Carmine in his goals (My Hobby is Magic).
Timona's contempt for the practice had caused him to refuse all other offers but his father could not turn down a request from the emperor, even if Carmine himself made no such request (Silver Killing Intent). Became loyal to the Emperor after the death of his father seeding his father's title to a relative in order to remain the Emperor's retainer and began studying swordsmanship (Before his Grave).
Baron Frederick Rouxnen or the Baron: Father of Timona Rouxnen. Far more rugged then his son though possessed of perfect manners. Supposed to teach the Emperor foreign languages he also taught Carmine to read rather then by memorization. Officially a member of the Regent's faction but not truly loyal to them (Silver killing Intent). His decision to discuss religion with the young Emperor, and specifically to denounce the use of the first faith as a tool for oppression, landed him in prison under suspicion of heresy (Running Through the Night). While in prison he was tortured for a "confession" and while he did not give one he latter succumbed despite the efforts of the Imperial Healers (The Baron).
Vera-Sylvie le Chapelier: Daughter of Count Chamneau former concubine of Prince Jean. Imprisoned in a tower by the Regent.
Archprelate George V: highest authority in the Western Orthodoxy and younger brother of Chancellor Raul. Put in place a policy of arrests and forceful conversion of those unaffiliated with the Western Orthodox church. This policy was most heavily enforced in his brother, Duke Raul's territories in particular (Running Through the Night). Suffered a blow to his prestige with his imprisonment and torture of Baron Rouxnen. His brother, Duke Raul, threw him under the bus in regards to the matter though his supporters are now being granted additional time with the Emperor to avoid their faction splintering (Before His Grave).
Fabio Denouet: A survivor of the three houses massacre due to his status as a branch family member. Originally wanted to clear his family name but decided to flee when Teyanave declared independence taking the neutral block he was depending on with it. Was captured by Count Palatine who brought him to the emperor as a "test." The emperor passed by volunteering Fabio for adoption by the Count. -

The late Giolus dynasty met its end under the regency of Empress Haculea due to what is now called "Haculea's folly." She was the widow of the third emperor of the late Giolus dynasty and considered the Bundarte people "barbarians." To prevent the throne from going to one she adopted a nephew and had him crowed with herself as regent. This decreased support for the Empire among the nobility and many chose to defect to Duke Bundarte under the pretext of "reinforcing the border." The split between Empress Haculea and the Bundarte people prevented her from calling for aid when the capital was under attack thus leading to the collapse of the late Giolus dynasty and giving Carmine both the opportunity and cause to found his own empire (Before His Grave).

- Emperor Edward III, sixth Emperor, ridiculed as "the Palanquin Emperor" (The Cowardly Emperor) known for his infamous venal office policy. Sold the imperial guard offices and, even more foolishly, the power of appointment (The Founding Day Festivities). Indeed his foolishness and recklessness remain legendary. Crowned at nineteen first child at fourteen from assaulting an attendant, this was confirmed true leading to every young lady that could leaving the capital. Despite his proclivities he only had four children with four women, three daughters and one son, Edward IV, because someone slipped him a poison that rendered him infertile though the official story is that he contracted an STD. People were already so worried about him that when his half brother, Charles-Petr lead a revolt he was able to rally significant support and crush Edward III on the battlefield forcing him to accept a join rulership until Charles-Petr's subsequent assassination. When "Petr's revolt," later "Petr's rebellion" collapsed into infighting without its leader Edward's next series of disasters began. He attacked, in order, the Teiwa Imperium across the Heavensreach Mountains, invaded the Garfure Republic, invaded the, then minor Kingdom latter Grand Duchy, of Gaeweigh, attempted a second invasion of the Garfure Republic, attempted to put down a rebellion in the Agincarl region, and attempted an invasion of the Emprie's southern neighbor, the Kingdom of Apraada, losing badly every single time. He started the venal office policy to fund the Gaweigh invasion and when paying reparations got expensive started a luxury tax and monopolization rights. When this didn't do enough he printed low value currency and when this wasn't enough he put the gold and silver mints themselves up for sale which were bought by Dukes Raul and Agincarl respectively using the funds to fund his final invasion (Apraada) before dying in 423. His stupidity is the primary reason why the current Dukes are so powerful. Duke Raul holds his the estate he inherited from his father, Duke Jeane de van Raul the younger brother of Edward III, who was granted control of the eastern half of the empire to assuage the dissatisfaction of the nobility after the disastrous first invasion of the Garfure Republic. Similarly the Minister of Ceremonies owes his title as Duke of Agincarl to Edward III's inability to quell the revolt there personally (The Cowardly Emperor).
- Emperor Edward IV, seventh Emperor, grandfather of the current emperor. Abolished the venal office system but not before a lot of damage had already been done (The Founding Day Festivities). Had three sisters; Eleanor, wife to marquis Agincarl d'Decci, Marguerite, wife to Marquis Ramitead, and Lise, widow of the former Count Veria but only one son the Crown Prince Jean (Three Houses Cup) along with his two daughters, (Inheritance Law). Also the previous Emperor and grandfather of the current one. As the public story goes the news of his son and heir's death in battle caused the Emperor to succumb to grief and die though he was "obviously assassinated" (Inheritance Law).
Crown Prince Jean: The Emperor's late father, and the only son of the previous Emperor Edward IV (Inheritance Law). He was married to Acretia with lady Norn de Alleman, who died in prison when the Emperor was four, and one other (later we learn is named Vera-Sylvie in "If It Stinks Put a Lid on It") as concubines. Also had a natural child with a commoner woman (Funeral Prayer). Has two sisters, still living. One married and is now the queen of a foreign nation the other is unmarried. Died in battle (Inheritance Law).
