@HarmlessDave To be fair, if they're using a 3rd party payment provider (which (almost) every web store should), then it's that provider that'll have to keep your payment information safe, and the info should never pass through Sol Press's systems, aside from the standard truncated info (CC expiry date, the last four digits of the card number etc.). That's the way things should be, at least.

Awk, and my mission to replace and complete Rakudai in English may have hit a stumbling block, the lack of availability with retailers that operate outwith of the USA.
£40.00/$55.00 is a little too much for shipping, so may have to wait till the series catches up to my last Japanese version, which is volume 9 (yes, that volume!!) -
@custodes - you could buy a kobo or kindle e-ink reader. $0 shipping for ebooks :)
I prefer my Kindle to paper books: it's lighter, the e-ink is as good as a brand-new paper book and better than ones with yellowed pages or faded text, the backlight works great in low-light conditions, e-books take up no space in my apartment, and e-books are better for the environment. Also, e-books are delivered instantly, no waiting on shipping.
That's for books and LNs, I'd agree that manga and comics work better in print unless you have a 10" or larger tablet or 2-in-1 PC.

For series I like I get both e and paper books.
Rakudai is the only one in Sol Press's resume which currently fits this criteria.
I also have the ebook already. -
Sol Press actually managed to release 80,000 Gold volume 2, and it's FUNA fun. The MC is more serious and pragmatic than the other two, but there's still plenty of humor and it's a good story overall. Or two stories since there are two main arcs in the book.
-
@HarmlessDave and it only took them how long? 2 years to release volume 2?
-
@HarmlessDave I’m enjoying the story. The MC has gotten more serious, but she was childish in what she took with her to the other world. Hell, even at the opening of book 2 and wanting to sell a blu ray of video she took at the party from book 1 had me questioning her sanity.
-
@Village-Idiot umm, 20 months.
-
I think I'll wait until a complete arc (or the whole series) of 80k is available before I start. Waiting who knows how long between volumes (that are written/in print) is not for me.
-
@Jon-Mitchell I don't think FUNA does arcs, and judging by Average and Potions I don't think they're in any hurry to finish anything. If you haven't started, though, I'd suggest you wait and see if Sol can pull out of the nosedive and start releasing regularly. Here's a graph for you, anyway.
-
@Jon-Mitchell - 80,000 Gold volume 2 reaches a good pause point without any dangling plot threads. It's not like half of the recent Abilities Average books where they ended on a cliffhanger.

Sol Press managed to release 4 other titles this month, Chivalry of a Failed Knight Vol. 5 plus 3 volume 1s:

Perhaps they finally have their act together, but I'll only believe that if they manage to make it to volume 2 of all of the new series by June 2021.

I feel like I shouldn't buy any of these until they catch up to Japan (Chivalry I did buy a few on sale, but unless there's another good sale, not gonna touch them).
Anyone know offhand how many volumes until they catch up to Japan for the newly released licenses?

Here you go:
- I Surrendered My Sword for a New Life as a Mage => 5 volumes (last one released on 2020/5/29)
- The Game Master has Logged In to Another World => 4 volumes (last one released on 2017/10/31; most likely
canceled
?) - Let This Grieving Soul Retire! Woe is the Weakling Who Leads the Strongest Party => 5 volumes (last one released on 2020/8/31)
-
It took them half a year to release v5 of Chivalry. Going by that pace it'll be 7 years until they release the current latest in Japan. By that time Yen press would have completed all 25 volumes of DxD and would have probably started the sequel already.
Honestly, I still feel depressed that they licensed a long series like Chivalry when they can't even release at the standard speed. And there still licensing more series even though they are not able to release new volumes for their other series.
They should really focus on getting their shit sorted out first before licensing more and slowly rebuild the lost trust from their customers.
-
@BartzBB - they probably can't survive releasing just 2-3 series, they have to offer a wider release slate.
Also, in general I'd prefer to have one translation team per title, not five different teams working on different volumes of the same title. That is, as long as they can afford it I'd rather they use any additional translators they hire to work on additional titles.
I hope that them going from 1 title total every 3-4 months to 5 in one month is a good sign, but the real test (for me) is what the follow up looks like: can they release next volumes in 3-4 months, or is it 6-12 months?
-
@HarmlessDave Don't believe anything they say in regards to a release schedule or the current status/reasons why a series is delayed.
It comes out when it comes out for their series.
-
@Village-Idiot - that's definitely how they have been before, but we can hope (without faith) that they've turned over a new leaf.

The Game Master has Logged In to Another World
I read volume 1 yesterday and enjoyed it. It's a typical overpowered-protagonist isekai but is a little bit like JNC's Instant Death Cheat in that many other people have been summoned to the same world, and they're from different MMOs not the same one as the main character.
Protagonist vs. protagonists, Gun Gale Online vs. Sword Art. A solid B+ novel.

Sigh. Nope, still Slow Press.
3 months later, 0 new releases.
As of March 3 their pipeline was:
Redefining the META at VRMMO Academy: Volume 4 is in lettering (on January 5 it was "preparing for submission")
Why Shouldn’t a Detestable Demon Lord Fall in Love?!: Waiting on assets (also was "preparing for submission" in January)
No news for any other LN titles.
