What's that, 20 months later? Well done Sol...
-
So glad they finally announced vol 5 of Chivalry of a Failed Knight is underway. I was beginning to think we weren’t going to get anything else from them in 2020.
-
How is Sol Press still in business? There releases are so slow and community trust in them is so low I can't see them making much of a profit.
-
@Eternal-Wanderer I'm guessing that much of their operation is somehow outsourced, or based on infrastructure that isn't theirs, which on one hand means they'll either have lacking quality control, or frequent delays, but on the other hand it means they can also operate at a much lower cost.
Probably not making a profit tho.
-
One disappointing feature is the lack of clarity. Asked about a scheduled/bookmarked date for physical Radukai only got a vague answer of possibly November.... Maybe on Amazon to.
It is a series I would happily pay for, but the good graces I have are wearing thin when there is no product. -
@Eternal-Wanderer
Maybe they are staying afloat with just the the VNs that they are also releasing since I doubt they are releasing enough LNs yet to actually make a profit. -

They're only releasing the ones they already had in development, and even some of those got canned cause the JP developers pulled them back.
The LNs and manga are what made money I think.

@Terrence
Didn't know that.But if that's the case then I'm very impress that they are still alive. Still not impress with them as a publisher but still impress that they can still go afloat when so many people are losing or had already lost their trust on them.
Edit: I'm still not buying anything from them because I still feel that sooner or later they're gonna go bust and all their licenses would be in limbo.
-
@BartzBB reminds of a comment I heard somewhere on the internet, "the reason they're called Sol Press is that the body withered away leaving only their soul"

come on everyone - let's have a contest to come up with the funniest punchline!

and I am aware that it is sad that Sol Press is now a joke.
a bunch of what they license are actually things I want to read... but they aren't getting any $$ from me until they get their act together...I am literally giving a net startup a chance (TenTai) first -
Biggest question for me since apart from J Novel, I tend to only buy e-novels on Amazon etc, what format does Sol Press do from their online store?
Is it PDF, Epub with DRM, any specific only readers etc? -
@custodes
Epub and no DRM, and no specific reader. But you are limited to a max of 10 downloads iirc. At least that has been the case for Detestable Demon Lord. -

-
@stardf29 I can see myself easily going over that limit to check if they updated the epubs with fixes just like JNC does from time to time. 😅
-
@Terabyte One would think they'd reset the download limit every time they upload a new version, but... well, that all assumes Sol Press cares enough to fix their books in the first place.😛

True and I agree, but was just detailing their policy and what to expect, wasn't particularly criticizing.
Ha, that would be the consumer friendly and thoughtful action, which may be asking too much. Your last statement, jokes aside is probably more than accurate.
-
I mean, the quality of the translations and PDFs have been perfectly fine to me. My only problem with them is how long it takes them to put things out. I’d really like them to at least last long enough to finish out the Failed Knight series.
-
They updated Chivalry of a Failed Knight V1-4 back in September, and my available downloads reset back to 10. There's no version number in the ebook or on the downloads page, but I did get an email that the books were updated.
-
DRM-free is tempting, but I don't trust them to keep my payment information safe.
I suppose I could set up one-time CC numbers on one of my cards, then the inevitable site breach will only give scammers my email address.
