Possible typo in Tearmoon Volume 2 Part 1?

In the context (discussing a boy's keepsake from his deceased mother,) the statement of the CHILD being the one to die young, instead of her, doesn't really make sense.

"Unfortunately, the child grew sick at a young age and died shortly thereafter."

Could someone double-check? I don't have the Japanese version.
