I'm pretty new to the j-novel club subscription, and this is my first time posting on the forums, but I had a question.

What do I do when I encounter a mistranslation in a novel? I can read Japanese to a certain extent, and I have the Japanese ebook and I noticed a few paragraphs had been mistranslated (a conversation between two characters was mistaken for a different pair of characters in the official j-novel English translation).

Should I report that in the forums (and if I should, which sub forum should I post it in?) or send an email to the j-novel support staff instead?

If the volume has already been published, email support.
If it's still in pre-pub, there should be a corrections topic for that work.

          @weasalopes

Ah okay thanks for the advice. The volume has been published, a long time ago at that.

But what can I expect in response? Do they make corrections and publish a new ebook version?

Also the mistranslation is in print also but I guess I would have to contact the publisher about that? (Or does j-novels also publish paperback translations?)

Edit: Where can I find those "corrections topics" that you mentioned for pre-pub? I recently emailed about a minor error in the pre-pub weekly releases for a series and they did fix the mistake, I don't know if my heads-up helped them out on that or they realized on their own.

The series was How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom but I couldn't find any such topic in the forums even though I searched.

@kumowoon1025 For newer titles/volumes, they can be found under https://forums.j-novel.club/category/26/prepub-corrections

However, that's a rather recent thing, and older titles had no dedicated forum thread.

If the book has it's own subforum the corrections topic is located there, otherwise it's in the prepub correction subforum.

Do they make corrections and publish a new ebook version?

Yes, although the priority of pushing out corrections is a bit further down the ladder, overtime corrections are implemented, and ebook versions are updated.

The timeframe for those new versions varies greatly based on where users purchase their books, the fastest being premium ebooks.

At the end of each premium edition is a Version number, 1.0 corresponds to a “first release”, and any subsequent versions, like 1.1 indicate an update ebook.

Also the mistranslation is in print also but I guess I would have to contact the publisher about that? (Or does j-novels also publish paperback translations?)

Barring a few exceptions (Arifureta, Arifureta Zero, Realist Hero, occultic Nine, & Clockwork Planet) J-NovelClub prints their own physical books.

                Edit:

All just to reiterate a few points from above, there is a dedicated sub-forum for prepub corrections (linked above), series with their own dedicated sub-forum have the corrections topic located in their sub-forum, (also linked above).

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

Thanks! I'd never have found that on my own!

If you are reading a pre-pub section there's a link to the relevant comment topic. (Hold your curser near the top of the reading window, the link should pop into sight then.)
In general, the first post, the one creating the topic, contains a link to the dedicated corrections topic for that work.

It's a 2-step thing, but it means you don't have to scroll through all the possible topics until you find the one you're looking for this time around.
Makes it much easier to report corrections right when you see the error.
