Announcements from April 29! (Recap in first post)

@amit34521 No, the manga quality tiers are just for customer convenience, different quality won't cost different amounts of coins. Premium manga won't be ready for coin launch anyway, so yes, there will be more details once we're closer to having it be available.
Flat for everyone. 1 credit = 699 coins = 1 light novel. So if you have 5 credits, you can redeem 5 LNs, and you will still be able to redeem 5 LNs after converting to coins.

reading through this thread, and the very involved discussion of prices, it sounds like it's literally nothing but good news for customers
well, perhaps other than a very small decrease in simplicity

Yes, that seems to be the case. It might mean that Bookworm Fanbook 3 might cost slightly more (e.g. be sold at the manga price), but that'd be an outlier and it'd still be great value for money given the amount of content and illustrations you get.
If JNC do sell high quality DRM-free manga that'd be a real victory for giving people what they want.
I'm hoping the new system will make Drama CD translations for popular series a viable option (stares longingly at Bookworm Drama CD licensing suggestion).

So it's official? DRM free?
I don't think they have commented on it. I'm just assuming because the LNs are. (Though the dissappointment would be immense if it was not.)

All the talk about "99"/$0.99 feelings me of the price of gasoline here in the US, always ending in 9/10 of a penny. I read somewhere it's all because people think an item is less expensive if the price is a tiny fraction less than a whole dollar.
-
I don't want to be too optimistic until I see how the system will be implemented (I'm quite wary of Bookwalker taking over as a platform), but with the information we have so far this seems like a very nice, customer-friendly approach.
I also appreciate the transparency of doing the announcement over a livestream and answering questions both during it and here in the thread. As a consumer, it is wonderful to see the company engaging so much and following up on questions. Thank you very much for that.
Something I'd like to add to the thread that was mentioned on the stream is that coins won't expire, which makes potential coin sales even more appealing to me. I hope you do either those or continue with sales with Kindle/Comixology.

It's because people look at the first number on the price tag, so $6.99 looks like it's a dollar cheaper than $7.00, especially if the store makes the 99 part of the price in a much smaller font.
Still hoping to hear how "sales" will eventually work because with the new system they can do discount on ebook purchasing, discount on credit purchases or bonus credits on purchase.

Disclaimer: I didn’t watch the video.
Just curious, I don’t suppose the JNC coins are interchangeable with the BookWalker coins?
I.e., would coins on one platform be usable on the other? -

Though it does sound like they copied the idea from Bookwalker (that's just good business: copy things that work)

I suppose you could look at how BookWalker does sales to have some idea. :0)

@piisfun Related to this, I wonder if they’d eventually provide a JNC linked account option in the BookWalker reader app. Currently you could add DRM-free ePubs into the BW library but it doesn’t show the cover art.

Don't suppose there was any news on The Ideal Sponger Life? Last announcement stream said the licensing issues had been resolved, but no word since.

Have to have something to announce at Anime Boston near the end of the month.

@bfennema Nothing announced, someone asked in the discord on Friday though
myskaros: We're working on it, but we aren't able to start streaming it yet.
eMPTy: Unfortunately, the only answer we can give is when everything's in place for it to happen -
