New J-Novel Coins are here!
-
J-Novel Club has officially converted from credits to coins! Read more about this switch here!
Note that you can still spend your credits until August 2, 2022, but after that everyone's credits will be automatically changed to coins!
-
Also, on the site when you hover over any particular part on a series page, it will display various information bits, one of those information bits is a percentage of how much you have read of that specific part.

Change is scary.
Ultimately as long as the Premium Subscription provides enough to buy a top tier book each month, I can live with the change.
I do like the idea of being able to pay various prices for books. It is true that they aren't all equal.
-
Change may be scary, but I am the person who decides how to approach it! To stay on the conservative side, I unsubscribed completely right away. Once my paid for premium month expires, I'll see which level of membership works best for me.
Update May 6, 2022: Any (minor, perceived) issues with the transition seem to have been ironed out. Reinstated happily my premium membership.

There doesn't appear to be any price listed on titles. There is currently no way for me to know the price of a given book, for example the new 999 coins Beatless volumes, by looking at their page or the purchase menu.
Perhaps this is different if you have the necessary coins already, but if you have no coins in your account there is just a button that says "Buy" which links to the coins purchasing page, with no indication of how many coins you need to buy.
Minor UX oversight, but figured I'd bring attention to it.

@dezponia Thank you! We are aware of the issue and working on it, we're just taking a lunch break :)

i just checked out the new page user/coins, where i have noticed that for me, the input fields are slightly mis-formatted, see screenshot below
(the input fields also look like this when empty)PS: the input fields should also probably be limited to a max input size
firefox 97 linux (manjaro)
Edit: i also just noticed these input fields allow negative values
-
@hasezoey We're aware of the Firefox issues and they are on our list of things to fix!
-
also i just had a look at subscribe where it looks like the tier description was not yet updated to reflect coins (still uses credits) and also does not list the discounts (5% / 15%) yet

This has been updated, thank you for letting us know!
We're still working on fixing:
- No price when you're not logged in/have no coins
- Firefox text box problems
-
We have now also updated the Buy button on the Series/Volume popup to always show the price!
-
I'm seeing an awful lot of JS errors in Chrome's console when I'm on the calendar page:
labs.j-novel.club/app/v1/me/follow/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:1 Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 ()
I've had the page open for a while now and I have ~300 errors like that. The XXX hash at the end of the link is often the same, at a quick look it looks like the same 12-13 links are being repeatedly called.

So either the wording is strange or it is because English is not my mothertongue. But is the premium version of Beatless really 999 coins? Is this only because Beatless is a special case with how it got released by Bookwalker and only later ended up here?
Just a question because all sounds nice, we get 699 which equals one credit and the wording that you could do special promotions. But the other side of the coin would be that for larger books (Ascedance has some large volume) you could simply set it to 999. So we would nearly pay 1.4 times more as before.
Oh and just one thing I want to confirm. It sounds like you also considered selling digital Manga and audiobooks here with the release of coins. Or am I mistaken?

Yes. It was never on sale as Premium Ebooks via credits due to the book's length. Even in Amazon and others it had a higher price.
To be fair, the Beatless volumes are considerably bigger than even the biggest released bookworm book, looking by the number of pages on Amazon.
you also considered selling digital Manga and audiobooks here with the release of coins.
They mentioned manga on the stream. The audiobooks were just mentioned on the blogpost though I think.

@terabyte It's not a real error, it's just checking if you're following a series and finding that you are not (404). However the following check was inefficiently implemented, and will be getting improved very soon.

i have read through the announcement and the places affected again, but i am still not fully clear on one thing:
when / how is the "discount" applied (5% / 15%)?
is it applied on the price before buying (eg 6.99$ - 15% = 699coins) or is it applied to the coins after purchase (eg 6.99$ = 699coins + 15%)?also does the "calculator" at user/coins factor in the discounts?
-
@hasezoey It's applied to the price. When I look at the packs, I see 699 coins for $5.94, for example.
Yes, the custom coin uses the same discounts.
-
Is there any reason not to convert all our credits to coins? Is there a potential for a book to be released before August 2nd that costs more than 6.99$, but can also be redeemed for a single credit?
-
@bfennema The main reason the option is there is for any users who dislike this change and want to "cash out," so to speak, they can still use all their credits normally until August.
-
@saffire The rounding does seem a little odd though (for the discount). 503 and 504 coins both cost $4.28 (if you increment the coin count). And entering $4.28, you end up with 503 coins. Seems like it should probably round up automatically to give you the most coins when the cost for +/- 1 coin is the same.
