Are You Okay With a Slightly Older Girlfriend? Volume 6 Series Conclusion and Future?
-
After basically having devoured the last couple volumes this summer I'm desperate to know whether there is anything else remaining of this series. I know there's an ongoing manga release that I'll have to check out at some point. But it's been quite some time since the ln volume 6. Anilist still has this series as "ongoing", I guess because there hasn't been any official stance on that matter yet. So I guess for now this is the end?
Personally I think it's one of the best light novels I've read mostly for its grounded characters. I'm a sucker for these age gap romances but in this case it wasn't even the main appeal. Orihara was as much of a child in the way she acted as Momota. In that sense it wasn't much of a gap at all, but the very poignant family drama hit so hard that I actually got teary eyed when it was resolved during that phone call in volume 5. I got invested enough to want to see them continue dating despite it all, but Orihara's sister was just in the right. That initial reveal of their newfound connection through her marriage to Momota's father was some of the best setup I've ever seen. Allowing the reader to realize something that the author was shooting hints of for the entire volume, at the exact moment it is revealed is always a profound moment. It made me bust out laughing.
Volume 6 took a hard turn from being about Orihara's family and romance with Momota and finally tied up all the loose ends with his friends. Again, it was done in such a satisfying way. I've been loving the idea of his woman-hating friend hooking up with that girl since they had their scenes way back in volume 2. Oh man what a great ending to a great series.
So what are your thoughts on the series and do you have any recommendations? Personally I'll always remember that time in summer 2022 when I read a volume a day of either Choppiri, Musume Janakute or Boku no Kanojo Sensei. We truly live in a blessed time.
