May You Be All Caught Up with Reading JNC Series!
-
Have you fallen behind with your series? Did you not have time to try a new announcement before it expired? Or maybe you only joined recently and are looking for more to read? JNC monthly catchups are great for members to try out something they hadn't before!
In Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers, Flio is summoned as a hero, only to be immediately forgotten because his stats are lackluster. After being thrown out of the castle, he accidentally kills a slime... and level 2 changes everything for him. Read all about his new, not-so-unfortunate life, and check out the anime adaptation, airing now!
Ever fallen in love at first sight? Did you then spend your entire life's savings on that person, only to find yourself unable to even have a rational conversation with them? Maybe you just watched an anime about that very thing? If so, you're in luck! An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride stars someone in that exact position! Will Zagan the sorceror ever manage to convey his feelings to the elf Nephy? Find out in this manga adaptation!
To round out this month's selection, A Pale Moon Reverie follows an odd pair, a shadeslayer and a shade binder, as they delve into the secrets of the shades lurking in the streets of their town. The Apothecary Witch Turned Divorce Agent doesn't really mince words: it's about a witch who runs an apothecary, but also helps with divorces on the side. But she's bad at both: the apothecary is failing, and all her divorce clients end up staying together! Finally, You Like Me, Not My Daughter?! is an unlikely romance between Takumi, a teenage boy, and his childhood friend's...mother?! Is Ayako really prepared to accept Takumi's feelings? And what will that mean for her family?
We've got enough catchup volumes for members to read one per day for the month of May! Get caught up now to be ready for new volumes in the future!

An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride is sweet, sometimes laugh out loud funny, and has a fair amount of adventure as well. (This is based on reading the LN not manga.)
Chillin’ in Another World would be easy to recommend as OP slice of life and humor, except there is a sexual assault-turned-"romance" side plot. It's not the MC but a main character in their party, and it ruined the series for me :( . Your Mileage May Vary.

An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride The 'buying a slave and expecting them to fall in love with you' plot kinda turned me off which is why I still haven't attempted to read this. I also meant to check out the anime but it's still sitting on my watchlist unwatched.
A Pale Moon Reverie Reading the synopsis and looking at the cover, I got the impression of a grimdark fantasy. Is that correct? Monster Tamer is finished for now so my grimdark slot is open.
Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers I'm already caught up on this.
I may just try the other two since it's there and I barely read anything (on JNC) last month.

It's one of my favorite series, and all I can say is that her being a slave basically plays no part in their relationship, and he frees her by the middle/last third of the first LN. Also, he doesn't buy her expecting anything out of her, he basically does everything on impulse and only after the fact does he realize how absurd it was.

Exactly -- this is in no way the typical LN slave maid fantasy. This is a slow romance between two incredibly awkward, naïve and sweet people.

HIya's plot? Because I'm really blanking on this. I read 4 or 5 of the LN before I paused it for other books. Planning to pick it up on this catch up.

Yes, and her "romantic" partner / victim who the author has fall in love with her attacker.

Thanks, this puts my mind at ease.

Honestly, it's fairly evident that he was planning on freeing her from the moment he bought her. It's been a while since I've read the first volume of the light novel, and the Anime goes out of its way to make it clear that he intends on freeing her ASAP. To the point where he decides to become an Archdemon (Sorcerer high muckety muck) in order to obtain the key necessary to open her slave collar.
I was hoping for the light novel of the Archdemon's Dilemma to be on Catch up this month. I'm good with the Manga for now.
Ironically enough. I actually did fall behind on Chilling in Another World after the last time it was on Catch up. So I'm looking forward to reading 10-14.

Another liker of Archdemon's Dilemma here! I think the manga is a great way to dip your toes into the series; it's a solid adaptation and one of my favorite things about it is the fun character expressions. In fact, seeing it on catch-up reminded me that I made a spoiler-free collage for when it ran a few years ago, so here, allow me to share once again!

I wouldn't call that one grimdark. It's a bit spooky, maybe. Dreamlike and alien. I quite liked it.

It's different.
One of those you need to be in the proper mood for. -
The Apothecary Witch Turned Divorce Agent
I enjoyed reading and wish there was another volume or two to read in the series.A Pale Moon Reverie
I had a kind of off relationship with the series. Writing is excellent but I cannot help feeling that as things start heating up action wise the FMC ends up on the shoulder of the MC while fleeing danger quite a bit. -
Since June 1 falls on a weekend, catchups will be switching on Monday instead! Finish up your May catchup reading before then!
