A Solid Selection for Spooky Season!
-
Instead of the traditional spooky catchups, this October we're giving you access to some classics!
Akira Ono ran a MMORPG for over a decade, and when the game finally shut down... he wakes up in the world of the game as his own character, the Demon Lord! While this new-but-familiar world is unforgiving, the world soon discovers that Akira is more than equipped to not just survive, but thrive! See what crazy antics Akira and his growing group of followers get up to in Demon Lord, Retry! A new season of the anime is also airing now!
You may be familiar with My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! from its anime, and it was an earlier examples of the "villainess reincarnation redo" genre! The young heiress Katarina realizes she's in an otome game and will one day become a villainess. To avoid all of her potential deaths, she befriends a host of story characters as children, but... the story is certainly a lot different from the game now... Volume 13 recently started streaming, so catch up from the beginning today!
And just in time for anime season 2, the street orphan Rio suddenly finds the memories and personality of a Japanese man named Haruto in his head, right when he's caught up in a kidnapping case involving royalty. Both of these things end up changing Rio's life forever, and this also sets off a series of conflicts that will engulf the entire continent. Follow the dramatic story of Seirei Gensouki in the manga adaptation!
Members can take a break from costume making and house decorations to read these 30 volumes on catchup this month!

I'm almost caught up on Bakarina. I own all the published volumes but I haven't read the last one yet.
I dropped Seirei Gensouki in the light novels so I'm not enthused about the manga.
So there's only Demon Lord, Retry! for me this month.

Demon Lord, Retry! is a fun one. It has a bit of the probability warping from Grieving Souls and Tearmoon Empire if you like that kind of story where infinity luck makes things fall into place. Unlike those two the MC is one of the strongest people in the isekai world, and the overall feel is different since luck is only one part of his success.

Looks like a good setvif titles this time. I guess no more excuses for me in the future for not having read - or at least attempted - Bakarina?

The first few volumes are definitely worth it, especially the first two.
There's a bit of a quality dive in the middle, I lost interest after Vol 5 or so personally. But supposedly the series started finding its way again later on.

The bland protag and paint by numbers story means that I dropped the Seirei Gensouki novels like 3rd period French, so that's a hard pass, and I'm caught up on Bakarina. I could try DLR, but my tolerance for super lucky, super OP isekai tends to be rather low...

Yeah, it's a huge nose dive in the middle. Without spoiling anything, it comes to what should be the end of the story - matching the end of the game she was dropped into - and instead of stopping it keeps going, but felt like it was only because it was so popular that it had to keep going and not because there had been plans for it to continue.
The last couple volumes haven't matched the early ones, but it HAS found it's footing again and has returned to being a series I can recommend.

The supporting cast is fun and grows over time, and the super luck isn't as strong as tearmoon or grieving souls. It might not be your cup of tea but you might try it while it's here.
