        @ariared26

Correct onlymembers can purchase premium credit, and as of right now premium credits are the only way to obtain a premium e-book

All J-Novel books have a premium edition, if you want a (somewhat) up to date list on what books come with what premium content please consult this list also regardless of what series it is all premium e-books come with enhanced high resolution images. (The resolution compared to kindle books is actually so shocking I have issues reading many on kindle now)

If you are a regular member on J-Novel you can purchase premium credit at $6 each

If you are a premium member you get 1 credit on the 15th of each month (or shortly after) and you can purchase additional credits at a discounted rate of $6 each

As for piracy, yes the books are DRM free so you could even upload them to your kindle to read however J-Novel takes precautions against illegal uploads.

All Premium E-Books have a watermark (along with some other stuff) to let the owner know who uploaded the book. This has come up in the past and was swiftly delt with because of said watermark.

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

            Yes they are ePub files.

if you are a regular member here you will pay $7 and that is the standard price everywhere whether it is amazon, BookWalker, or kobo, etc.

However if you are premium that is a $1 difference which after a few books will add up.

As for quality issues when taking into kobo or amazon kindle I can't actually say. I upload all the files to iBooks, and Google Play books, however I am sure after some time somone will come here and post about any quality issues when bringing into other readers.

What I can say is bringing into iBooks and google play books leave the quality to be very good.

@ariared26 The only quality difference between the premium epubs and the mobi files should lie in the image quality. And in that department the premium epubs win. Thus, as long as you don't downscale the images while converting, a premium epub converted to mobi should have a higher quality than one bought on Amazon.

I converted a couple volumes of "Realist Hero" for my kindle app using a random online service, and when I opened it, the only real thing that was "odd" was those high quality images where badly distorted.

Stretched lengthwise from top of page to bottom. Otherwise it seemed fine.

The only other issue I've been having is after deciding not to convert and using adobes digital edition app, I have trouble moving onto the next chapter. I'll go from page 192 to 184 and b stuck there. I'd have to advance using the go to function. This seemed to occurs mainly at the end of a chapter of when one of those images popped up mid chapter.

                  What am I reading?

@thomask I had the same issue but when trying to rip the DRM from regular ebooks. I am assuming that is what you tried to do as well. Use Calibre next time.

Thanks for this information as i had been sitting on the fence about going in as a Premium member. The only other question for me is -- will the DRM free downloads always be available directly via Jnovel ? (zero interest in using amazon or similar services). Also are the older titles available for purchase? (ie vol 1's etc..)

                          thanks

PS - Good service you offer -- my hunt for the Grimgar books brought me here (and i can buy the paper novels discounted through work... but having the digital copies let's me help you guys and the authors more directly)

Yes yhe DRM tree options will be purchasable through J-novel. (However based on the survey they have there may be a time when a company they work with won’t allow DRM free but for now it’s all DRM free)

All current series are purchasable from the first Volume as premium editions (DRM free)

Just go to the min site go to titles and find a series and click the link to a Volume and you can purchase the premium edition (note you must be a subscriber to purchase premium credits )

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

I hope JNC will just refuse those companies then, if they are absolutely refusing DRM free options. In a sense, watermarks are much more effective because they are not so trivial to remove.

Though I'm afraid the majority of users might not care that much because "I can remove it if necessary!" or "I only read through the app/online anyway!".
The problem is: DRM costs money. So on top of being absolutely useless because it's trivial to remove, even for someone not too adept with computers, it actually diminishes the profits of JNC.
So really the best thing you can do is only buy directly though JNC because they don't have to pay the platform fees (which are often in the order of 30%) nor the Adobe DRM (of which I'm not sure how costly it is).

Maybe refusing to deal with companies who insist on DRM will help to make them see that books are, have always been (as long as there has been DRM anyway) and will always be trivial to copy in a few hours, even if the DRM was flawless. If you can read it, you can copy it.

It would make me sad to see a series I might be interested in not get picked up / get dropped solely because of DRM issues though.

@flarecde I completely agree. But if nobody starts doing this, this DRM rubbish is never going to get better.

I probably just won't pick up anything with DRM as I really just don't appreciate when I don't own something despite paying for it. I'm old fashioned that way.

For those reading their premium ebooks through Kindle stuff (for me, specifically the Android app on a Nexus 6), are there any optimal settings to use in Calibre when converting to end up with as high quality of output as possible?

I tried outputting to Mobi and found some setting about not converting images to jpeg & leaving them as is (think it was with the output device a generic tablet?), they are big enough to read everything so I think it is okay but if there's options I should be using I'd like to know about them.

Also, I lost the cover somehow after emailing it to the Kindle address - is there something I'm supposed to do in Calibre to keep the cover visible in the Kindle app?

I know I can use other ereader software, I just prefer to keep everything in the same place as I'm buying my non J-Novel light novels from Amazon (after Play Books region screwed me after the first few volumes of Re:Zero & Konosuba)
