Acquisitions Speculation - General
-
@student-no-0 I'd be a bit sceptical, as it was stated on reddit that all 3 remaining series were from the 2 new publishers.
-
Man, sorry for being slow had to go to /r/lightnovels to see that there were new hints!
-
@student-no-0 The latest one: https://www.reddit.com/r/LightNovels/comments/74fylf/jnovel_club_license_hints_updated/
-
No 5 might be... "First thing I think about after reincarnating: For now, get naked."
-
"Not actually tensei" I see what you did there
oh well, back to binging rokujouma. -
I wonder if capitalization in the latest hints is a hint as well.
@artemis1990 I don't think "new publisher" is going to be "actually, that's an individual author, not a publishing company."
-
So any idea when the next LN will have its announcement? :3
-
@imilyaz I'm betting Monday
-
@imilyaz Sam confirmed to us that the next announcements contracts are under review by the publishers lawyers.
So it might take a while or not, depending on how long it will take to review the contracts for the next titles.
Should be relatively soon or maybe not.
-
@fezu shit seems like a big deal
I thought the publisher and Sam just usually have a small chat over a cup tea, then the conversation ends with a handshake and a small contract for them to sign 😅
But then again, I don't know shit about business ^.^
-
@fezu I believe the most recent info is that 2 of the titles are under lawyer review and 1 is ready to be announced soon (I thought "in about a week" was given at some point in the past week).
-
@hatguy12 Ah right there was that 3rd title too, yeah. Hopefully it is coming soonish. I am excited to see the full lineup!

Humanity Has Declined
That would be an awesome one, and it's actually complete now.
-
@sirpaper I hope.

There are so many awesome LNs and not enough translations :(. One day I'll learn to read Japanese! I hope.

Anyone ever tried used Machine translation on an LN (specifically the Google Translate photo mode on a cell phone)? How bad is it? I feel like I need to experiment. Playing my way through Monster Hunter XX with it, which is tedious, but doable. xC
Don't worry, I know Google isn't replicating anything close to actual translation quality and is still a mess with complex sentences. No one will lose their job to bots. =P

@terrence I tried it once, and it was recognizable as a hilarious clusterfuck (even for someone like me who doesn't speak Japanese). Though, to be fair, you could get the general gist of the story most of the time.
You know how in Japanese, the subject is often implied? In a conversation segment, Google translate tried to guess the correct pronoun to insert, but got it wrong all the time.
And speaking of dialogue, you couldn't follow who's speaking at all. In the Japanese text, it was clear because everyone was using a different "I" (ore, watashi in hiragana and watashi in kanji ), but that was of course lost in translation, and Google translate of course wouldn't add speaker tags.
And from my experience using Google Translate for languages which I actually know (English, German and French), it has the bad habit of sometimes simply omitting subordinate clauses.
-
I've read quite a few web novels using Google Translate, it does have all those issues you all mentioned, but having its romanization (which is what I struggle with most) below helps a lot once you get a general understanding of japanese grammar, which can certainly be learnt a lot faster than actual japanese, so I usually go google translate -> select clusterfuck translation -> check romaji -> make sense of grammar -> translate word by word -> put it together into a coherent phrasing.
It is extremely time consuming... but you can get about 90% of it (checked by comparing what I got with the proper translation that gets released later on). It's not perfect, but it gets its job done of queching your thirst.

I use Google Translate to "read" Rokujouma Hercules chapter. Even though it is all over the place by already knowing the character personality and general way of thinking plus series style I manage to make sense most of it. At least enough to gasp the full picture of what being shown.
