      Hello,

As this topic has gone on for quite some time now, and there was a sizable gap between posts, it is now time for this topic to be locked.

At this point everything has been addressed, yes not everyone will agree with, or accept what has happened, but there does not seem to be any need to keep coming back to this subject here on the J-Novel Club forums.

      Thank you for your cooperation.

Is the product in question shipped and sold by Amazon Japan? They should have included an import fees deposit if there's supposed to be any fees since I believe amazon takes care of all the brokerage for you.

If the product is being shipped and sold by a marketplace seller however, they'll only charge you shipping and the receiving party is responsible for all clearance fees.

Can't really help you on the UK part, but that's generally how it should work, so maybe double check who the seller is.

@Timmaaah Nice. And good to see it seems to be doing pretty well, though I'm obviously not privvy to their profit calculations.

I don't think I could make a list of how many different titles I'm following at the moment without looking at a list. It has to be around 25 or 30 currently, though several of those aren't finished but may never get a continuation.

And that's only here, that's not including physical books. Which is where I'm actually very far behind...

Thankfully, I am a very fast reader. I also have read at least some before I go to sleep every night for as far back as my memory goes. And even as a kid, it made perfect sense to me to be reading 4 or 5 different books at once... one I would take to school, one in my mom's car, one at my bed, one in the living room, etc. So I am rather uniquely well suited for J-Novel's format.

As much as I read, I haven't dropped too many series. I have a good feel for what titles I'm probably not going to enjoy so 1 part is plenty to make the call. The ones I have dropped were all because the protagonist bored me or because I simply couldn't build any sense of being invested in what was going on.

@Icerius I'll try to add that soon along with some other sorting options. Probably not for manga, though, because it's been like half a year and I still don't know how I want to implement chapter's length/percentage storage (it stores read pages count instead of % because that's how JNC's reader does it for some reason).

@SomeOldGuy Yes, that happened... I believe they sent an email about it shortly after it happened with warnings about changing passwords.

That said, I haven't received any spam/phishing/social engineering emails sent to my Funimation alias. I'm actually kind of surprised it's still in use since I know it's been compromised, however, since it hasn't received emails to that address I haven't yet encountered a reason to switch out the alias. I do know that there's at least one botnet is trying to login to my email server and it makes some attempts using that alias.

      @Taedirk said in E-readers:

@Thomask Why not just skip the Kindle steps for reading on your iPad and use another reader program? No need to convert and export multiple times.

Thought about it... weird but I'm attached to the kindle reader... don't know what it is about some of the others...

Meh, its the price I need to put up with. Thing is, before the most recent update, I didn't NEED to go through all that.

...Some pointless info... Sam(JNC founder) said he really wanted and tried to get Average but ended up loosing out to SS. For some reason I want to say it was because SS was able to offer print unlike JNC(at the time).

I haven't bought any physical books through international delivery for a long time, mostly because I don't think the shipping's worth it unless it's an important textbook. When I do get manga/anime-related books though (like artbooks or databooks) I usually just order them through the nearest Kinokuniya because there's no need to pay crazy shipping costs. Looking at the list of countries though, obviously that only works if you live in the US, Australia or various Asian countries.

This book series is controversial - people either love it or hate it - but "Remembering the Kanji" by James Heisig is what I would recommend to start seriously studying kanji. I've worked with the first volume on and off, and when I was doing the exercises every day I could feel my grasp of kanji growing.

I know someone, a fellow American, who sat down and worked with Remembering the Kanji for six months straight, and now she can read almost anything in Japanese. I mean, she studied Japanese before that and knew the basics already, but RTK was what put her over the top for kanji comprehension.

I only buy digital, so there are no problems with going out of print.

I'll almost always buy new volumes of series I'm reading as they come out. The exception is that I've sometimes (not often) waited to buy something when I know it's part 1 of a 2-3 part story arc. Then I might decide to wait until that arc is closer to being fully released.
